Cross Country Set to Compete at Regional Meet

The Oglethorpe cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regionals Saturday morning at the Clara Bowl on the campus of Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia. The Stormy Petrels will look to cap an outstanding season that saw the men earn the best conference finish in their history, and the women put a runner on the All-SAA team for the first time.

The men's team finished second at the SAA Championships in Memphis, Tennessee, two weeks ago. In addition, the squad had freshman Hayden Guthrie earn SAA Newcomer of the Year honors after finishing eighth at the event. Sophomore Jacob Hadden came in fifth and earned All-SAA first team accolades, while Guthrie earned All-SAA second team accolades. Junior Mateo Villa and sophomore Bill Lester also earned All-SAA honorable mention for finishing in the top 15 at the conference meet.

On the women's side, senior Kara Jones nabbed All-SAA honorable mention after finishing 15th at the SAA meet. It marked the first time that a member of the Petrel women's cross country team took home All-SAA honors.

The top two teams from the men's 8-kilometer and women's 6-kilometer races on Saturday will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wisconsin. Additional teams will have the opportunity to qualify via 16 national at-large selections. The top seven men's and women's individual finishers at the regional meet who are not members of teams that qualify will also gain individual qualification to the national meet.

The women's race will get started at 11 a.m., while the men's race is set to get underway at 12:15 p.m. Fans can follow along with live results by clicking here.
