Freshman center Savannah LeGate of the Oglethorpe women's basketball team has been named the SAAC Female Athlete of the Week for her efforts in the team's 2-1 week.
Oglethorpe freshman center Savannah LeGate continued her outstanding run of play to start the season, averaging 15.3 points and nine rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game in a week where the Stormy Petrels went 2-1 with victories over SAA foe Berry and Pomona-Pitzer. Their lone loss came on the road against No. 13 Washington (Missouri). LeGate also shot 51.4 percent from the field over the course of the week. She recorded double-doubles in both the Berry win and the Washington loss, scoring 19 points on 7-of-8 from the field, grabbing 11 rebounds, and recording two blocks in the former, and scoring 119 points to go with 10 rebounds and two blocks in the latter. LeGate currently leads the league in rebounding with 9.1 per contest.
LeGate and the rest of the Petrels now head to Greensboro, North Carolina, to take on Guilford Thursday at 5 p.m. After that, they'll return home to host the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic, with games against Centenary (Louisiana) and Emory & Henry.
