Freshman center Savannah LeGate of the Oglethorpe women's basketball team has been named the SAAC Female Athlete of the Week for her efforts in the team's sweep of the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic Dec. 18 and 19.

LeGate continued her outstanding play over the first part of the season over the course of the last couple weeks, earning Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic MVP honors for her efforts in victories over Centenary (Louisiana) and Emory & Henry on Dec. 18 and 19 at Dorough Field House. For the week, she averaged 12 points and 11 rebounds a game while adding 2.5 steals and two blocks per contest. LeGate shot an impressive 64.7 percent from the floor over the two games.

In the Petrels 72-52 win over Emory and Henry on Dec. 19, LeGate scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds. She also added four steals and two blocks. In Oglethorpe's 74-45 win over Centenary the previous day, she scored 11 points on 5-of-9 from the field, grabbed nine rebounds, and recorded a pair of blocks.

For the season, LeGate leads the league in rebounding (9.7 per game), is fourth in field goal percentage (52.3), and fifth in scoring (14.1 PPG) and blocks (1.2 per game).

LeGate and the rest of the Petrels now head to Lexington, Kentucky, for a non-conference battle with Transylvania on Friday before returning home to take on crosstown rival Emory on Tuesday, then get back into SAA play the following weekend.
