Oglethorpe Routed, 21-6, in First Game of Spring Break Trip
The Oglethorpe baseball team was blown out by Ramapo, 21-6, in the first game of their spring break trip to the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Auburndale, Fla., on Sunday.
The Petrels fell behind Ramapo 11-0 over the first two innings, including a 10-run first. They committed nine errors in the game and were outhit 17-8.
The Petrels were able to score six runs, three in the second and three in the fifth. The second inning started with a single by Joe Parillo and a double by Jeff Brothers. Parillo scored on a passed ball, and Joey McAlpin and Jake Spear followed with RBI singles.
In the fifth, an error and a walk put two runners on for Brothers. He came through with a three-run home run, giving the Petrels their final tally of six runs.
Brothers was 2-for-3 with the three-run homer and a double. McAlpin was 2-for-4 with an RBI single.
The loss drops the Petrels to 6-10 on the year. They will continue RussMatt Central Florida Invitational play in Winter Haven, Fla., Monday morning, when they will take on Amherst at 11 a.m. They will take on Washington and Jefferson at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning to wrap up the trip before heading home to start the SCAC season this weekend.
