    Late-Inning Sewanee Comeback Derails Baseball, 4-3 The Oglethorpe baseball team took a 3-2 lead over the Sewanee Tigers into the bottom of the eighth inning Friday evening in Sewanee, Tennessee, but the home team was able to score a run in each of the final two frames and turn things around for a 4-3 victory. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 9-11 on the season overall and 1-6 in SAA play.

    Oglethorpe Athletics to Celebrate Start of Division III Week with Cookout on Sunday, April 2 The Oglethorpe athletic department will celebrate the start of NCAA Division III Week on Sunday, April 2, with a cookout that will be ongoing during the baseball game against Centre and the men's lacrosse game against Hendrix that afternoon. The cookout will take place from noon to 3 p.m., and will be held at Petey's Party Pavilion, the landing overlooking right field at Anderson Field.

    Schedule Changes to Weekend Baseball Series at Sewanee The 3-game set in Tennessee between the Oglethorpe baseball team and Sewanee has been shifted around due to potential stormy weather over the weekend. The single game between the two teams, originally scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, will now be moved to 4 p.m. on Friday. The two teams will try to play Saturday's doubleheader as scheduled, but if the rain postpones one or both of the games, they will be made up on Sunday at a time to be determined.

    Baseball Wins Slugfest at Covenant, 11-8 The Oglethorpe baseball team took its second consecutive high-scoring victory Tuesday afternoon on Lookout Mountain in northwest Georgia, defeating the homestanding Covenant Scots 11-8 in game. After trailing by three runs early in the contest, Covenant fought back with three runs in the fifth to take a 7-6 lead. However, the Stormy Petrels responded with three runs of their own in the seventh to build a lead which they they would not relinquish, and secure their third win in their last four contests. The victory improved the team to 9-10 on the season.

    Baseball Takes Rubber Game over MIT in 10-9 Slugfest The Oglethorpe baseball team took the rubber game of a 3-game series from the MIT Engineers Sunday at Anderson Field, knocking 17 hits in a back-and-forth 10-9 victory that featured numerous ties and lead changes. The result improved the Stormy Petrels to 8-10 on the season overall..

    Baseball Falls to MIT, 6-4, to Even 3-Game Set The Oglethorpe baseball team ran up against good starting pitching Saturday afternoon at Anderson Field, and couldn't get much going offensively until the middle innings against the visiting MIT Engineers. By that point, though, the visitors had built a 6-1 lead on the Stormy Petrels and the home team was unable to recover in a 6-4 defeat. The result dropped the Petrels to 7-10 on the season.

    Baseball Scores Eight Runs in Middle Innings to Pull Away from MIT, 8-3 The Oglethorpe baseball team got eight consecutive runs over the middle innings Friday afternoon against the visiting MIT Engineers, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to pull away from the visitors en route to an 8-3 victory in the first of a 3-game series between the two teams. The Stormy Petrels pounded out 10 hits on the afternoon while Oglethorpe pitching held the Engineers to 6 hits over the course of the game. The victory improved Oglethorpe to 7-9 on the season.

Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m., while Saturday will now feature a single game at 3 p.m. Sunday will remain as originally scheduled, with a single game at noon.

The Friday doubleheader will begin at 5:30 p.m. Eastern, with the second game set to start at approximately 8:45 p.m. On Saturday, the single game is now scheduled for a first pitch of 1 p.m.

    Baseball Drops Crosstown Rivalry Game with No. 1 Emory The Oglethorpe baseball team faced a tough matchup against No. 1 Emory Wednesday afternoon at the Eagles' campus in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, and couldn't overcome an Emory scoring barrage in a 17-1 defeat. The Stormy Petrels gave up 21 hits on the afternoon while managing just 7 themselves, and the result dropped the team to 6-6 on the season.

    Matt Davis Named to D3baseball.com Team of the Week as Starting Pitcher Oglethorpe junior right-hander Matt Davis continued to receive plaudits for his outstanding work in Friday's 10-0 win over Rhodes, a game which was called after eight innings due to the 10-run rule. He was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week Tuesday as one of the four best starting pitchers from around the nation during the week of Feb. 27 through March 5, adding to the SAA Pitcher of the Week accolades he received on Monday.

They got an outstanding pitching performance from junior right-hander Matt Davis and swung the bats extremely well, bludgeoning Rhodes 10-0 in a game that was called after eight innings due to the 10-run rule. The Stormy Petrels pounded out 18 hits, allowing them to overcome 6 errors in the victory. With the win, they improved to 5-2 on the season.

    Baseball Head Coach Dan Giordano Earns 200th Career Victory Oglethorpe head baseball coach Dan Giordano earned a milestone victory over the weekend, garnering his 200th career win in the team's 6-0 triumph over Curry in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader at Anderson Field. Giordano becomes just the second baseball coach in program history to win 200 career games at the helm of the program.

The Stormy Petrels will be taking on the Panthers for the second time this month, as LaGrange beat Oglethorpe 9-4 on Feb. 12 as part of the Firehouse Classic in Montgomery, Alabama.

    Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader, 3-Game Series from Curry The Oglethorpe baseball team earned a 3-game sweep over the visiting Curry Colonels after taking both games in Sunday's doubleheader at Anderson Field. The Stormy Petrels used a big inning in each game to turn the contest in their favor, scoring 3 runs in the fifth inning of Game 1 and 4 in the fourth inning of Game 2. In both cases, it gave Oglethorpe a lead they would never relinquish. With the wins, Oglethorpe improved to 4-2 on the young season.

The Stormy Petrels didn't collect a hit for 4 2/3 innings Friday, but answered with 8 runs and 8 hits over their final 3 1/3 innings at the plate and pulled away from Curry.

    Baseball Home Opener Against Curry Moved to Friday Evening at 6 p.m. The Oglethorpe baseball team's home opener against Curry has been moved up to Friday evening at 6 p.m. on Anderson Field. The two teams were scheduled to play a Saturday doubleheader, but due to forecast rain, the 3-game series against the Colonels will now feature games on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon. If rain forces the postponement of Saturday's game, it will be moved to Sunday as part of a doubleheader.

He becomes the first member of the Stormy Petrel baseball program to earn the accolade since Joey McAlpin in April of 2015.

    Baseball Pounds Out 17 Hits in 7-Inning, 13-3 Blowout of Host Huntingdon at Firehouse Classic The Oglethorpe baseball team bounced back from Friday's ninth inning loss in extremely impressive fashion Saturday at the Firehouse Classic in Montgomery, Alabama. The Stormy Petrels bludgeoned the Huntingdon Hawks, the event's host team, and never gave them an opportunity to recover, defeating them 13-3 in a seven-inning game shortened by the 10-run rule. With the win, the Petrels improve to 1-1 on the young season, and will look to come home from the Firehouse Classic with a winning record on Sunday.

    2017 Baseball Season Preview Coming off of back-to-back 20 win seasons the Petrels are looking to take the next step in the always tough SAA. The 2017 Petrel nine has a mixture of youth and experience with 27 returners and 14 newcomers. The schedule will once again be daunting and will give the Petrels a chance to show what they can do against some of the best in the nation. Birmingham Southern and Rhodes have been the perennial powers the last few seasons inside the SAA but the nonconference slate is just as tough. The Stormy Petrels will have games versus cross-town rival and world series participant Emory, regionally ranked LaGrange, Huntingdon and MIT. “Every game will be a challenge, it is a demanding schedule but one that will make us a better club. I’m excited to face off against the best.”

    Oglethorpe SAAC Finishes Successful First Annual Toy Drive for Patients at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta The Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committtee (SAAC) wound up their First Annual Toy Drive last week and delivered the toys received to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital on Friday.
