    Baseball Uses 4-Run Fifth Inning to Overcome Sloppy Defensive Performance in 8-6 Win The Oglethorpe baseball team used an outstanding offensive performance to overcome a sloppy defensive performance Wednesday evening at Anderson Field en route to an 8-6 victory over the visiting Covenant Scots. The Stormy Petrels pounded out 18 hits, allowing them to overcome 6 errors in the victory. With the win, they improved to 5-2 on the season.

    Baseball Head Coach Dan Giordano Earns 200th Career Victory Oglethorpe head baseball coach Dan Giordano earned a milestone victory over the weekend, garnering his 200th career win in the team's 6-0 triumph over Curry in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader at Anderson Field. Giordano becomes just the second baseball coach in program history to win 200 career games at the helm of the program.

    Tuesday's Baseball Game Postponed Due to Forecast Showers in Atlanta Area The Oglethorpe baseball team's Tuesday evening game against LaGrange has been postponed due to forecast showers in the Atlanta area. The game will be made up on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. on Anderson Field. The Stormy Petrels will be taking on the Panthers for the second time this month, as LaGrange beat Oglethorpe 9-4 on Feb. 12 as part of the Firehouse Classic in Montgomery, Alabama.

    Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader, 3-Game Series from Curry The Oglethorpe baseball team earned a 3-game sweep over the visiting Curry Colonels after taking both games in Sunday's doubleheader at Anderson Field. The Stormy Petrels used a big inning in each game to turn the contest in their favor, scoring 3 runs in the fifth inning of Game 1 and 4 in the fourth inning of Game 2. In both cases, it gave Oglethorpe a lead they would never relinquish. With the wins, Oglethorpe improved to 4-2 on the young season.

    Baseball Bounces Back from Quiet Start to Score 8 Runs in Final 4 Innings, Beat Curry 8-2 The Oglethorpe baseball team roared to life over the latter half of Friday's contest with the visiting Curry Colonels at Anderson Field, turning a 2-0 deficit into an 8-2 victory to improve to 2-2 on the young season. The Stormy Petrels didn't collect a hit for 4 2/3 innings Friday, but answered with 8 runs and 8 hits over their final 3 1/3 innings at the plate and pulled away from Curry.

    Baseball Home Opener Against Curry Moved to Friday Evening at 6 p.m. The Oglethorpe baseball team's home opener against Curry has been moved up to Friday evening at 6 p.m. on Anderson Field. The two teams were scheduled to play a Saturday doubleheader, but due to forecast rain, the 3-game series against the Colonels will now feature games on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon. If rain forces the postponement of Saturday's game, it will be moved to Sunday as part of a doubleheader.

    Wednesday Baseball Home Opener Against Covenant Moved to Feb. 22 The Oglethorpe baseball team's home opener against Covenant at Anderson Field, originally scheduled for Wednesday at 5 p.m., has been moved to Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 5 p.m. due to forecast inclement weather. Oglethorpe's home opener will now be on Saturday at 1 p.m., when they take on Curry in a doubleheader at Anderson Field.

    Austin Ferlita Named to D3baseball.com Team of the Week Senior third baseman Austin Ferlita of the Oglethorpe baseball team has been named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, the first such honor of his career. He becomes the first member of the Stormy Petrel baseball program to earn the accolade since Joey McAlpin in April of 2015.

    Baseball Falls to LaGrange in Final Game of Firehouse Classic The Oglethorpe baseball team ran into a tough LaGrange team Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Firehouse Classic in Montgomery, Alabama, falling 9-4 to the Panthers after falling behind 6-1 over the first four innings. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 1-2 on the season, headed into their home opener on Wednesday evening.

    Baseball Pounds Out 17 Hits in 7-Inning, 13-3 Blowout of Host Huntingdon at Firehouse Classic The Oglethorpe baseball team bounced back from Friday's ninth inning loss in extremely impressive fashion Saturday at the Firehouse Classic in Montgomery, Alabama. The Stormy Petrels bludgeoned the Huntingdon Hawks, the event's host team, and never gave them an opportunity to recover, defeating them 13-3 in a seven-inning game shortened by the 10-run rule. With the win, the Petrels improve to 1-1 on the young season, and will look to come home from the Firehouse Classic with a winning record on Sunday.

    Baseball Falls Victim to Southwestern Comeback in Season Opener at Firehouse Classic The season opener for the Oglethorpe baseball team Friday evening in Montgomery, Alabama, did not go the way they envisioned it against the Southwestern (Texas) Pirates. The Stormy Petrels led their former SCAC rivals 12-8 going into the bottom of the ninth at the Firehouse Classic, hosted by Huntingdon, but couldn't hold on in a 13-12 defeat.

    Baseball Season Opener at Piedmont Postponed Due to Forecast Rain The season opener for the Oglethorpe baseball team against Piedmont, originally scheduled to take place Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. in Demorest, has been postponed due to forecast rain in north Georgia. The contest has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 19, at 7 p.m.

    2017 Baseball Season Preview Coming off of back-to-back 20 win seasons the Petrels are looking to take the next step in the always tough SAA. The 2017 Petrel nine has a mixture of youth and experience with 27 returners and 14 newcomers. The schedule will once again be daunting and will give the Petrels a chance to show what they can do against some of the best in the nation. Birmingham Southern and Rhodes have been the perennial powers the last few seasons inside the SAA but the nonconference slate is just as tough. The Stormy Petrels will have games versus cross-town rival and world series participant Emory, regionally ranked LaGrange, Huntingdon and MIT. “Every game will be a challenge, it is a demanding schedule but one that will make us a better club. I’m excited to face off against the best.”

The Duluth native earned a spot on the D3baseball.com Preseason All-America First Team, becoming the first Stormy Petrel to garner a Preseason All-America honor from the organization.

    Oglethorpe SAAC Finishes Successful First Annual Toy Drive for Patients at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta The Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committtee (SAAC) wound up their First Annual Toy Drive last week and delivered the toys received to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital on Friday.
