The Oglethorpe University men's basketball team lost to Trinity University in the quarterfinals of the SCAC Tournament in Jackson, Mississippi on Friday afternoon, 61-52. The Petrels held a 52-45 lead with five minutes to play but the Tigers closed the game on a 16-0 run to claim the victory.
The Petrels looked poised to advance to the semifinals after scoring on four consecutive possessions late in the second half to open up the aforementioned 7 point lead. David Allison began the run with a three-ball before Todd Ward scored on a turnaround jumper on the next trip down. Alex Richey then nailed a three of his own and Allison capped the run with yet another three-pointer to push the Petrel lead to 52-45 with 6:08 to play. It would be the last time the Petrels scored in the contests, however, as the Tigers made the plays down the stretch to earn the win.
Wade Weldon led the Petrels in scoring with 9 points on the evening.
The Petrels finish the season with a 15-11 record and will look torwards the 2010-2011 season as an opportunity to climb the ranks of the SCAC.
