The Oglethorpe men's basketball team is getting set to tip-off their campaign in the inaugural SAA men's basketball tournament this afternoon at 3 p.m., when they take on Sewanee from Alumni Gym on the campus of Centre College in Danville, Ky.
The Petrels finished tied for fourth in the league with Sewanee as both finished 8-6 in SAA competition. Oglethorpe holds the No. 5 seed and Sewanee the No. 4 for the tournament via conference tiebreaking procedures. The Petrels sport an overall record of 16-9 on the season, marking the fourth time they've accumulated 15 or more wins in a season in the last five years.
The Petrels and Tigers split the season series, Oglethorpe winning in Sewanee 78-62 on January 20 and Sewanee winning in Dorough Field House 57-51 on February 2. The Tigers come into the game on a hot streak, sporting a 6-1 record for the month of February. Oglethorpe posted a record of 3-3 over the same time frame.
The winner of this afternoon's game goes on to face the winner of the Centre-Berry game Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
