Oglethorpe seniors Branden Jovaag and Christian Molinet were named to the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association (GABCA) All-State teams this week, while sophomore Jordan Kinney received honorable mention recognition.
Jovaag was named First-Team All-State by Georgia's coaches. He was named Second-Team All-SAA for his work this season, which included finishing first in the league in three-point shooting percentage (45.3) and in three-point baskets (91). He was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District team for his work both on the floor and in the classroom, and was named to the SAA All-Tournament team.
Meanwhile, Molinet garnered Second-Team All-State honors. He garnered Second-Team All-SAA honors of his own. He led the league in assists per game (5.1) and overall assists (137), setting the school single-season record in both categories. He finished a full assist per game ahead of his closest competitor in the former category, and 25 assists ahed in the latter.
Kinney was named All-State honorable mention by the state's coaches. He finished fifth in the league in field-goal percentage, shooting at a 51.7 percent clip. His 0.6 blocks per game tied him for sixth in the conference, and he wound up with 11.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. In conference play specifically, he did even better, shooting at a 53.4 percent clip.
GABCA recognizes the best players from colleges located in Georgia at the NCAA Divisions II and III levels, as well as the NAIA/junior college level.
Jovaag and Molinet will also be participating in the GABCA Senior All-Star Game tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Oglethore's Dorough Field House. The event is free and open to the public.
