    Drew Patrick Takes SAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week Honors Senior forward Drew Patrick of the Oglethorpe men's basketball team has been named the SAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week by the league office for his efforts in his team's 106-89 win over Berry Saturday on Senior Night. It marks the second career SAA Player of the Week honor for Patrick and the third for the Stormy Petrels this season.

    Men's Basketball Finishes Regular Season with Four Straight Victories, Defeats Berry 106-89 on Senior Night The Oglethorpe men's basketball team collected its fourth consecutive win to end the regular season on Saturday night, using an outstanding performance in the first half to pull away from Berry Vikings and cruise to a 106-89 victory on a night where the program celebrated Senior Night and the 100th anniversary of basketball at the school. The victory means that Oglethorpe ends the season with a 10-15 overall mark and a 7-7 SAA record, putting them in a tie for fourth place in the league standings. It also means that the Petrels have still never finished lower than fourth in the league during their time in the SAA.

    Oglethorpe Basketball Teams to Celebrate 100th Anniversary of Sport at the University The Oglethorpe basketball programs are set to celebrate the 100th anniversary of basketball at the school on Saturday, as part of an SAA doubleheader against Berry beginning at 6 p.m. The weekend will feature a number of events celebrating Oglethorpe basketball.

    Justin Edwards Takes SAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week Honors Junior guard Justin Edwards of the Oglethorpe men's basketball team has been named the SAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his efforts in the team's victories over conference opponents Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps. It marks the first time that Edwards his taken the honor, and the second time this season that a Stormy Petrel has done so (Mike Turner, Dec. 5).

    Men's Basketball Overcomes Sluggish Start, Cruises to Victory over Millsaps The Oglethorpe men's basketball team came out of the gate a bit sluggish Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House, but outscored the visiting Millsaps Majors 74-47 over the final 29 minutes of the game to cruise to a 90-72 victory in the end. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 9-15 on the season overall and 6-7 in SAA play, moving them into a 3-way tie for fifth place in the league.

    Men's Basketball Knocks Off Birmingham-Southern, 65-58 The Oglethorpe men's basketball team used an outstanding performance from the opening tip to the final horn Friday night at Dorough Field House, leading defending SAA champion Birmingham-Southern by as many as 14 points en route to a 65-58 victory over the visiting Panthers. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 8-15 on the season overall and 5-7 in SAA play, putting them in a tie for sixth place headed into the final two games of the regular season.

    Men's Basketball Uses Late Run to Defeat Sewanee, 69-64 The Oglethorpe men's basketball team used an excellent shooting performance and a late run to knock off the homestanding Sewanee Tigers Sunday afternoon, 69-64, in Sewanee, Tennessee. The Stormy Petrels outscored the Tigers 12-2 late in the contest and shot 50 percent for the game, helping them to the victory. The win improved Oglethorpe to 7-15 overall and 4-7 in SAA play.

    Men's Basketball Can't Overcome First Half Struggles, Falls 73-53 at Centre The Oglethorpe men's basketball team got off to a poor start Friday night, falling behind the homestanding Centre Colonels 45-17 at halftime. They played much better in the second half, outscoring their opponent 36-28 over the final 20 minutes, but couldn't overcome the first 20 in a 73-53 defeat in Danville, Kentucky. With the loss, the Stormy Petrels dropped to 6-15 on the season overall and 3-7 in SAA play and remained in seventh place in the league standings.

    Men's Basketball Falls to Hendrix in Overtime Heartbreaker, 79-72 The Oglethorpe men's basketball team fought for 45 minutes Sunday afternoon in Conway, Arkansas, but fell to the homestanding Hendrix Warriors in overtime, 79-72. Junior guard Justin Edwards tied the game on a driving layup with 2.4 seconds to go in regulation, but overtime did not go Oglethorpe's way. Hendrix pulled out to a 5-point lead with a minute to go in the extra period and secured victory from there. The Stormy Petrels dropped to 6-14 overall on the season, 3-6 in SAA play.

    Late Men's Basketball Comeback Falls Just Short in 107-101 Loss to Rhodes The Oglethorpe men's basketball team took on the high-scoring Rhodes Lynx Friday night in Memphis, Tennessee, for the second time in as many weeks. The visitors came back from being down by as many as 17 points to cut the deficit to just three with 5:44 to go. However, similar to a week ago, Rhodes used their extreme uptempo style to take 20 more shots than the Stormy Petrels over the course of the game, making three more shots than Oglethorpe despite being outshot by 11 percentage points. As a result, the home team held on for a 107-101 victory, dropping the Petrels to 6-13 on the season overall and 3-5 in SAA play.

    Men's Basketball Uses Rousing Comeback to Knock Off Hendrix, 70-63 The Oglethorpe men's basketball team outscored the visiting Hendrix Warriors 43-27 in the second half Sunday afternoon, including a 24-5 stretch to end the game, to turn the tables on the visitors and grab a 70-63 comeback victory in Dorough Field House. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 6-12 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

    Men's Basketball Falters Late in 104-84 Shootout The Oglethorpe men's basketball team played very well for 20 minutes Friday night in an extremely fast-paced game at Dorough Field House, outscoring the visiting Rhodes Lynx by nine points from the 10-minute mark of the first half through the 10-minute mark of the second. However, the visitors used an outstanding effort in the game's opening 10 minutes and closing 10 minutes to help them to a 104-84 victory. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 5-12 on the season overall and 2-4 in SAA play.

    Men's Basketball Earns 77-65 Win at Millsaps The Oglethorpe men's basketball team got off to a 21-point lead early in Sunday afternoon's contest against the Millsaps Majors in Jackson, Mississippi, and never looked back, leading wire to wire in a 77-65 victory. Millsaps pulled to within as few as four points a few times, but they got no closer than that as the short-handed Stormy Petrels played well down the stretch to secure the win. They improved to 5-11 overall and 2-3 in SAA play with the win.

    Men's Basketball Falls on Road to Birmingham-Southern, 82-68 The Oglethorpe men's basketball team suffered a tough first half against the homestanding Birmingham-Southern Panthers Friday night in Birmingham, Alabama, as they were outscored 38-24 over the opening 20 minutes. The Stormy Petrels played Birmingham-Southern evenly over the course of the second half, but they couldn't recover from their first half deficit and fell 82-68, dropping to 1-3 in SAA play and 4-11 overall.

    Men's Basketball Can't Overcome Hot Shooting from Sewanee, Falls 84-70 The Oglethorpe men's basketball team shot the ball well Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House, converting on 50 percent of their field-goal attempts and 47 percent of their 3-point attempts. It wasn't enough against a Sewanee team who converted on 59 percent of their total shots and featured guard Jorden Williams, who sank 7 of 12 three-point attempts and finished with 35 points en route to an 84-70 victory over the Stormy Petrels. The loss dropped the home team to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in SAA play.

    Men's Basketball Falls to Centre in SAA Home Opener, 77-67 The Oglethorpe men's basketball team hung with perennial SAA power Centre for much of Friday evening's contest at Dorough Field House, the SAA home opener for the Stormy Petrels. However, the visiting Colonels used a big run midway through the second half to secure a 77-67 victory over Oglethorpe, dropping the Petrels to 4-9 overall and 1-1 in SAA play.

    Men's Basketball Falls to Crosstown Rival Emory in First Game of New Year The Oglethorpe men's basketball team hung with a high-powered Emory team in the first half Monday night at the Woodruff P.E. Center in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, trailing 48-36 at halftime to a team that began the season in the D3hoops.com top 15. The homestanding Eagles outscored the Stormy Petrels 45-32 in the second half, though, pulling away for a 93-68 victory in the first game of 2017 for both teams. The result dropped the Petrels to 4-8 on the season overall headed into SAA play.

    Men's Basketball Outlasts Stevenson in Final Game of 2016 at Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic The Oglethorpe men's basketball team used good free throw shooting down the stretch and an excellent second-half performance from senior guard Mike Turner to propel themselves to a 69-65 victory over Stevenson Friday afternoon at Dorough Field House in their final game of 2016. The solid non-conference win closed out the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic in style and improved the Stormy Petrels to 4-7 on the season.

The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 3-7 on the season.

    Men's Basketball Falls to Piedmont, 81-67, in Final Game before Holidays The Oglethorpe men's basketball team was outrebounded 49-29 by the visiting Piedmont Lions Tuesday evening at Dorough Field House, and was outscored 46-35 in the second half, turning an 8-point Oglethorpe lead late in the first half into an 81-67 Piedmont victory. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 3-6 on the season heading into the holiday break.

    Mike Turner Earns Spot on D3hoops.com's Team of the Week The accolades for Oglethorpe senior guard Mike Turner continued to roll in on Tuesday, as he earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for his record-breaking efforts in Saturday's 120-104 Stormy Petrel victory at Berry, becoming the first Petrel to earn the honor since 2011. Tuner turned in one of the best shooting performances in Oglethorpe history and helped in one of the best team shooting performances in NCAA Division III history.

    Hot-Shooting Covenant Downs Men's Basketball, 78-64, on Lookout Mountain The Oglethorpe men's basketball team saw the homestanding Covenant Scots shoot 55 percent from the field in the second half and outrebound the Stormy Petrels 23-9 in the period Tuesday night on Lookout Mountain. The combination proved too much for the Petrels to overcome, as they fell behind the Scots by as many as 18 points in the second period and eventually fell 78-64. The loss dropped the Petrels to 3-5 on the young season, and means they've dropped four of their last five contests.

His efforts in the Stormy Petrels' 120-104 shootout victory over Berry in the team's SAA opener served as one of the best shooting performances in Oglethorpe basketball history, and were a part of one of the best team shooting performances in NCAA Division III history.

    Men's Basketball Gets Record-Breaking Shooting Performance to Outlast Berry in 120-104 Barn-Burner It was a record-setting performance for the Oglethorpe men's basketball team Saturday night in a 120-104 victory over the Berry Vikings in Mount Berry. As a team, the Stormy Petrels broke the NCAA Division III single-game record for the most consecutive made 3-pointers without a miss, sinking 12 straight at one point. Individually, senior guard Mike Turner finished with 31 points on 11 of 11 from the field and 8 of 8 from 3-point range, tying the school record for most field goals in a game while shooting 100 percent and breaking the same record for 3-point shots. Meanwhile, the 224 combined points scored by the Petrels and Vikings tied the Oglethorpe school record for most combined points in a game. Most importantly, Oglethorpe moved to 3-4 on the season overall and 1-0 in SAA play after picking up a road victory in their conference opener, overcoming a series of injuries that left them short-handed coming into the contest.

The visitors turned the tables on the Stormy Petrels, though, going on a 12-2 run over the next four minutes, allowing them to pull away for an 81-76 victory. The loss dropped the Petrels to 2-4 on the young season.

    Maryville Pulls Away from Men's Basketball Late Despite 34-Point Night from Edwards The Oglethorpe men's basketball team got an outstanding 34-point performance from junior guard Justin Edwards Saturday evening, as he finished 11 for 15 from the field and 12 for 15 from the free throw line en route to his career high in points. However, it wasn't enough, as the Stormy Petrels fell to Maryville (Tennessee), 92-80, on the first day of the Oglethorpe Thanksgiving Classic at Dorough Field House. The result dropped them to 2-3 on the young season.

    Men's Basketball Falls to La Verne in 98-92 Shootout The Oglethorpe men's basketball team found themselves in a high-scoring affair with La Verne on the final day of their trip to southern California. The two teams scored a combined 115 points in the second half Tuesday evening in La Verne, California, but it was the homestanding Leopards who prevailed in the end, 98-92, dropping the Stormy Petrels to 2-2 on the season.

    Men's Basketball Weathers Second-Half Comeback, Defeats Caltech 60-56 The Oglethorpe men's basketball team got a victory in their first road game of the season Monday night in Pasadena, California. They built an 11-point lead over the Caltech Beavers and held on as the home side came back late. The Stormy Petrels hit 8 of 10 free throws in the final 1:10 to secure a 60-56 win and improve to 2-1 on the young season. Oglethorpe used outstanding defense to turn the game in their favor, holding Caltech to 34 percent shooting and forcing 16 Beaver turnovers.

    Men's Basketball Bounces Back to Rout Boyce for First Victory of Season The Oglethorpe men's basketball team bounced back from Friday night's defeat to a hot-shooting Johnson (Tennessee) team with an equally impressive shooting performance of their own Saturday afternoon at the Lon Varnell Classic in Sewanee, Tennessee. They shot 55 percent from the field and an outstanding 46 percent from three-point range Saturday, hitting 18 three-point shots en route to a 106-53 rout of Boyce. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 1-1 on the young season.

    Men's Basketball Falls Victim to Scorching Shooting Performance, Drops Season Opener to Johnson The Oglethorpe men's basketball team found themselves on the wrong end of a nearly incredible shooting performance in their season opener Friday night against Johnson (Tennessee) as part of the Lon Varnell Classic in Sewanee, Tennessee. The Royals scorched the nets at a 57 percent clip from 3-point range, making 20 three-point baskets over the course of the game, while shooting 49 percent from the field overall, sinking 40 total shots. Under those circumstances, the Stormy Petrels didn't have much of a chance in a 113-85 defeat.

    2016-17 Men's Basketball Season Preview The Oglethorpe men's basketball team returns this week with a large number of previous contributors back in the fold and an excellent freshman class joining them. They'll look to improve on a 2015-16 season in which they finished 11-15 overall and 6-8 in the Southern Athletic Association. It was, however, a season in which they finished in fourth place in the league, keeping themselves as one of only three programs to finish in the top half of the SAA in its history.

    Petey the Petrel Helps Gwinnett Braves Mascot Chopper Celebrate Birthday at Coolray Field Petey the Petrel, the beloved mascot of the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels, made an appearance at Gwinnett County's Coolray Field on Saturday night. Petey and a wide variety of other mascots from the Atlanta area were there to help celebrate Chopper's birthday during that evening's Gwinnett Braves game against the Rochester Red Wings. Chopper is the groundhog mascot of the Gwinnett Braves, the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
