  • Zach Altany Hired as Men's Basketball Assistant Coach

    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team will have a new assistant coach headed into the 2017-18 season. Zach Altany joins the Oglethorpe coaching staff, coming to the Stormy Petrels after a two-year stint as a graduate assistant at Division II Georgia College in Milledgeville.

    The Oglethorpe athletic department saw 66 student-athletes named to the SAA Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll for the 2016-17 winter and spring seasons Friday. The 66 Oglethorpe student-athletes joined a total of 1,033 from around the SAA to earn a spot on the Academic Honor Roll.

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Fifth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the Turner Lynch Campus Center on Oglethorpe's campus. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2016-17 athletic year as a whole.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics to Celebrate Start of Division III Week with Cookout on Sunday, April 2

    The Oglethorpe athletic department will celebrate the start of NCAA Division III Week on Sunday, April 2, with a cookout that will be ongoing during the baseball game against Centre and the men's lacrosse game against Hendrix that afternoon. The cookout will take place from noon to 3 p.m., and will be held at Petey's Party Pavilion, the landing overlooking right field at Anderson Field.
  • Connor Sigrist, Karlymarie Dyer Named to SAA All-Sportsmanship Teams

    The SAA released their Winter All-Sportsmanship Teams today, recognizing student-athletes who displayed outstanding sportsmanship over the course of their season. Senior Cole Romaguera of the men's basketball team and freshman Madi Foltz of the women's basketball team earned the honors, joining 26 other student-athletes from among the league's eight member institutions.

  • Edwards, Patrick Named to Men's Basketball All-SAA Second Team

    The Oglehtorpe men's basketball team saw two players named to the All-SAA Second Team Friday aftenoon at the SAA Tournament in Memphis, Tennessee. Senior forward Drew Patrick and junior guard Justin Edwards both earned the honors, marking the second time that Edwards has earned All-SAA honors in his career and the third for Patrick.
  • Men's Basketball Season Ends in Heartbreaking Fashion with 62-59 Defeat to Birmingham-Southern

    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team saw their season end in heartbreaking fashion Friday night in Memphis, Tennessee, in the first round of the SAA Tournament, as third-seeded Birmingham-Southern came back from 18 points down to take the lead in the game's final minute and win 62-59. The result ended the Stormay Petrels' season at 10-16 overall, eliminating them from the tournament.
  • Drew Patrick Takes SAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week Honors

    Senior forward Drew Patrick of the Oglethorpe men's basketball team has been named the SAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week by the league office for his efforts in his team's 106-89 win over Berry Saturday on Senior Night. It marks the second career SAA Player of the Week honor for Patrick and the third for the Stormy Petrels this season.
  • Men's Basketball Finishes Regular Season with Four Straight Victories, Defeats Berry 106-89 on Senior Night

    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team collected its fourth consecutive win to end the regular season on Saturday night, using an outstanding performance in the first half to pull away from Berry Vikings and cruise to a 106-89 victory on a night where the program celebrated Senior Night and the 100th anniversary of basketball at the school. The victory means that Oglethorpe ends the season with a 10-15 overall mark and a 7-7 SAA record, putting them in a tie for fourth place in the league standings. It also means that the Petrels have still never finished lower than fourth in the league during their time in the SAA.

    The Oglethorpe basketball programs are set to celebrate the 100th anniversary of basketball at the school on Saturday, as part of an SAA doubleheader against Berry beginning at 6 p.m. The weekend will feature a number of events celebrating Oglethorpe basketball.

    Junior guard Justin Edwards of the Oglethorpe men's basketball team has been named the SAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his efforts in the team's victories over conference opponents Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps. It marks the first time that Edwards his taken the honor, and the second time this season that a Stormy Petrel has done so (Mike Turner, Dec. 5).
  • Men's Basketball Overcomes Sluggish Start, Cruises to Victory over Millsaps

    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team came out of the gate a bit sluggish Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House, but outscored the visiting Millsaps Majors 74-47 over the final 29 minutes of the game to cruise to a 90-72 victory in the end. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 9-15 on the season overall and 6-7 in SAA play, moving them into a 3-way tie for fifth place in the league.
  • Men's Basketball Knocks Off Birmingham-Southern, 65-58

    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team used an outstanding performance from the opening tip to the final horn Friday night at Dorough Field House, leading defending SAA champion Birmingham-Southern by as many as 14 points en route to a 65-58 victory over the visiting Panthers. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 8-15 on the season overall and 5-7 in SAA play, putting them in a tie for sixth place headed into the final two games of the regular season.
  • Men's Basketball Uses Late Run to Defeat Sewanee, 69-64

    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team used an excellent shooting performance and a late run to knock off the homestanding Sewanee Tigers Sunday afternoon, 69-64, in Sewanee, Tennessee. The Stormy Petrels outscored the Tigers 12-2 late in the contest and shot 50 percent for the game, helping them to the victory. The win improved Oglethorpe to 7-15 overall and 4-7 in SAA play.
  • Men's Basketball Can't Overcome First Half Struggles, Falls 73-53 at Centre
    February 03, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team got off to a poor start Friday night, falling behind the homestanding Centre Colonels 45-17 at halftime. They played much better in the second half, outscoring their opponent 36-28 over the final 20 minutes, but couldn't overcome the first 20 in a 73-53 defeat in Danville, Kentucky. With the loss, the Stormy Petrels dropped to 6-15 on the season overall and 3-7 in SAA play and remained in seventh place in the league standings.
  • Men's Basketball Falls to Hendrix in Overtime Heartbreaker, 79-72
    January 29, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team fought for 45 minutes Sunday afternoon in Conway, Arkansas, but fell to the homestanding Hendrix Warriors in overtime, 79-72. Junior guard Justin Edwards tied the game on a driving layup with 2.4 seconds to go in regulation, but overtime did not go Oglethorpe's way. Hendrix pulled out to a 5-point lead with a minute to go in the extra period and secured victory from there. The Stormy Petrels dropped to 6-14 overall on the season, 3-6 in SAA play.
  • Late Men's Basketball Comeback Falls Just Short in 107-101 Loss to Rhodes
    January 27, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team took on the high-scoring Rhodes Lynx Friday night in Memphis, Tennessee, for the second time in as many weeks. The visitors came back from being down by as many as 17 points to cut the deficit to just three with 5:44 to go. However, similar to a week ago, Rhodes used their extreme uptempo style to take 20 more shots than the Stormy Petrels over the course of the game, making three more shots than Oglethorpe despite being outshot by 11 percentage points. As a result, the home team held on for a 107-101 victory, dropping the Petrels to 6-13 on the season overall and 3-5 in SAA play.
  • Men's Basketball Uses Rousing Comeback to Knock Off Hendrix, 70-63
    January 22, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team outscored the visiting Hendrix Warriors 43-27 in the second half Sunday afternoon, including a 24-5 stretch to end the game, to turn the tables on the visitors and grab a 70-63 comeback victory in Dorough Field House. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 6-12 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
  • Men's Basketball Falters Late in 104-84 Shootout
    January 20, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team played very well for 20 minutes Friday night in an extremely fast-paced game at Dorough Field House, outscoring the visiting Rhodes Lynx by nine points from the 10-minute mark of the first half through the 10-minute mark of the second. However, the visitors used an outstanding effort in the game's opening 10 minutes and closing 10 minutes to help them to a 104-84 victory. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 5-12 on the season overall and 2-4 in SAA play.
  • Men's Basketball Earns 77-65 Win at Millsaps
    January 15, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team got off to a 21-point lead early in Sunday afternoon's contest against the Millsaps Majors in Jackson, Mississippi, and never looked back, leading wire to wire in a 77-65 victory. Millsaps pulled to within as few as four points a few times, but they got no closer than that as the short-handed Stormy Petrels played well down the stretch to secure the win. They improved to 5-11 overall and 2-3 in SAA play with the win.
  • Men's Basketball Falls on Road to Birmingham-Southern, 82-68

    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team suffered a tough first half against the homestanding Birmingham-Southern Panthers Friday night in Birmingham, Alabama, as they were outscored 38-24 over the opening 20 minutes. The Stormy Petrels played Birmingham-Southern evenly over the course of the second half, but they couldn't recover from their first half deficit and fell 82-68, dropping to 1-3 in SAA play and 4-11 overall.
  • Men's Basketball Can't Overcome Hot Shooting from Sewanee, Falls 84-70

    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team shot the ball well Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House, converting on 50 percent of their field-goal attempts and 47 percent of their 3-point attempts. It wasn't enough against a Sewanee team who converted on 59 percent of their total shots and featured guard Jorden Williams, who sank 7 of 12 three-point attempts and finished with 35 points en route to an 84-70 victory over the Stormy Petrels. The loss dropped the home team to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in SAA play.
  • Men's Basketball Falls to Centre in SAA Home Opener, 77-67

    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team hung with perennial SAA power Centre for much of Friday evening's contest at Dorough Field House, the SAA home opener for the Stormy Petrels. However, the visiting Colonels used a big run midway through the second half to secure a 77-67 victory over Oglethorpe, dropping the Petrels to 4-9 overall and 1-1 in SAA play.
  • Men's Basketball Falls to Crosstown Rival Emory in First Game of New Year
    January 02, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team hung with a high-powered Emory team in the first half Monday night at the Woodruff P.E. Center in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, trailing 48-36 at halftime to a team that began the season in the D3hoops.com top 15. The homestanding Eagles outscored the Stormy Petrels 45-32 in the second half, though, pulling away for a 93-68 victory in the first game of 2017 for both teams. The result dropped the Petrels to 4-8 on the season overall headed into SAA play.
  • Men's Basketball Outlasts Stevenson in Final Game of 2016 at Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic

    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team used good free throw shooting down the stretch and an excellent second-half performance from senior guard Mike Turner to propel themselves to a 69-65 victory over Stevenson Friday afternoon at Dorough Field House in their final game of 2016. The solid non-conference win closed out the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic in style and improved the Stormy Petrels to 4-7 on the season.
  • Men's Basketball Drops Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic Opener to Methodist

    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team had a tough return from their holiday break on Thursday, as the visiting Methodist Monarchs controlled the contest throughout in an 85-59 win on the opening day of the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic at Dorough Field House. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 3-7 on the season.
  • Men's Basketball Falls to Piedmont, 81-67, in Final Game before Holidays
    December 20, 2016
    The Oglethorpe men's basketball team was outrebounded 49-29 by the visiting Piedmont Lions Tuesday evening at Dorough Field House, and was outscored 46-35 in the second half, turning an 8-point Oglethorpe lead late in the first half into an 81-67 Piedmont victory. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 3-6 on the season heading into the holiday break.
  • Mike Turner Earns Spot on D3hoops.com's Team of the Week

    The accolades for Oglethorpe senior guard Mike Turner continued to roll in on Tuesday, as he earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for his record-breaking efforts in Saturday's 120-104 Stormy Petrel victory at Berry, becoming the first Petrel to earn the honor since 2011. Tuner turned in one of the best shooting performances in Oglethorpe history and helped in one of the best team shooting performances in NCAA Division III history.
