Oglethorpe Set to Host 2011 Royal Lakes Fall Classic
Oglethorpe University is set to host the 2011 Royal Lakes Fall Classic at the Royal Lakes Golf Club in Flowery Branch, Georgia starting this weekend.
The field of seventeen competing Division III men's golf teams will play a practice round this Sunday before teeing off for rounds one and two on Monday and Tuesday, October 17 and 18. The illustrious field includes nine of the top twenty-five schools in the nation in Golfstat's most recent head-to-head rankings, including five of the top ten ranked teams in the country.
Among the highly ranked teams in the tournament are (with ranking in parentheses) Cal-Lutheran University (No. 5), Methodist University (No. 7), Oglethorpe University (No. 9), Christopher Newport University (No. 9) and LaGrange College (No. 10). Other ranked squads include Rhodes College (No. 15), Huntingdon College (No. 17), Greensboro College (No. 20) and Emory University (No. 25). Additionally, the field features non-ranked participants Covenant College, Piedmont College, Millsaps College, Maryville College, DePauw University, Birmingham-Southern College, St. Olaf College, and Southwestern University.
Individually, the field features sixteen of the top 100 players in the nation based on the most recent Golftst statistics available. Among the top-50 players (with ranking in parentheses) competing at Royal Lakes will be Birmingham-Southern's Landon Michelson (No. 4), Methodist's Mike Westo (No. 9) and Andrew Bateman (No. 45), Greensboro's Ben Nihart (No. 15), DePauw's Ty Frost (No. 23), Cal Lutheran's Chad Gillespie (No. 34) and Parker Colvin (No. 45).
