Owen Named SCAC Coach-of-the-Year for 12th Time

Folllowing exclusive voting by the head coaches of the SCAC, men's golf coach Jim Owen has been selected as the 2012 SCAC Men's Golf Coach-of-the-Year. With 12 COTY selections, Owen joins Trinity's Paul McGinlay in a tie for most in the same sport in SCAC history.

The COTY selection for Owen marked his 12th in 14 years. The Petrels won their league-high tenth SCAC men's golf title at this year's conference tournament at Tunica National, in Tunica, Miss., and went on to 2012 NCAA Division III Championships where the team earned its second National Championship in the past four years. With the victory, Oglethorpe becomes just the sixth men's golf program to win multiple Division III titles. Only Cal State Stanislaus (12 titles) and Methodist University (10 titles) have more championships than Oglethorpe's two. Owen also led Oglethorpe to its first men's golf team national title in 2009.
