Maccaglia Ranked Tops in Nation by Golfstat.com

Golfstat.com rates Oglethorpe sophomore Anthony Maccaglia the No. 1 men's golfer in NCAA Division III, according to their latest standings.

The formula includes results when teams and players compete against each other head-to-head. No other results are used.

Also, in the rankings for the Golfstat Cup, which is awarded to the best individual college golfer in the country regardless of level, Maccaglia is currently ranked as the 17th best player in all of college golf, sandwiched between a golfer competing for USC and another for Alabama. Pevious winners of the Golfstat Cup include Tiger Woods, Luke Donald, Matt Kuchar and Bill Haas.

In the Division III standings, the closest Petrel to Maccaglia is junior Hayden Jones, who currently sits at 18th in the standings. He's closely followed by senior Eric Quinn, who comes in at 24th.

The Oglethorpe men's golf team starts their spring season and their quest for a second consecutive national championship and a third in five years in earnest this weekend, when they travel to Pine Mountain, Ga., and Callaway Gardens for the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate. This will be their first full tournament of the spring. They defeated Emory in a dual match earlier this month.
