The Oglethorpe men's golf team garnered the top spot in the first Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches' Poll of the spring season, picking up where they left off at the end of the fall season.
The team retained a 25-point margin over second-place Methodist, securing 11 of a possible 16 first-place votes from members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. Methodist picked up three first-place votes, while Nebraska Wesleyan and Gustavus Adolphus picked up one apiece.
At No. 22, Centre joins the Stormy Petrels as the only two SAA schools to receive a vote in the poll. Other squads of note in the poll include Emory at No. 13 and LaGrange at No. 18.
The Oglethorpe team starts their spring season and their quest for a second consecutive national championship and a third in five years in earnest this weekend, when they travel to Pine Mountain, Ga., and Callaway Gardens for the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate. This will be their first full tournament of the spring. They defeated Emory in a dual match earlier this month.
