Men's Golf Leads by 10 Strokes After First Round at Callaway Gardens

The Oglethorpe men's golf team finds itself in the lead after the first round of the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate in Pine Mountain, Ga., Saturday. 

In frigid conditions, the Petrels put together an excellent round of golf and now find themselves 10 strokes ahead of second-place LaGrange in the first full tournament of the 2013 season. Oglethorpe shot a 292 today to LaGrange's 302.

Petrel sophomore Anthony Maccaglia holds the overall lead, as well, having shot a first-round score of 68. He sits two strokes ahead of LaGrange's Cory Howard.

The Petrels also have four of their five competitors in the top 25. Senior Eric Quinn was third (71), junior Anthony Amodeo went to the clubhouse tied for 12th (75), and sophomore Will Morrow came in tied for 25th (78). Junior Hayden Jones posted an 82 putting him in a tie for 58th. 

Competing as an individual, freshman Braden Baer tied with Amodeo and others for 12th by posting a 75.

Rhodes sits in third place after shooting 309, while Linfield and Greensboro stand in a fourth-place tie with a score of 310.

Oglethorpe will tee off the second and final round at 11:06 a.m. tomorrow, along with second-place LaGrange and third-place Rhodes.
