  • Men's Golf Suffers Heartbreaking Back Nine in Round 2 of NCAA Division III Championship, Misses Cut for First Time since 2013

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team looked to be in good shape to at least make the cut, and perhaps to contend for a national championship, after finishing Round 1 tied for sixth Tuesday at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, but it all came unraveled Wednesday afternoon on a windswept Las Colinas course at Mission Inn Resort and Club. The Stormy Petrels posted a 38-over-par 326 on the tournament's secondary course, dropping 17 spots down the leaderboard to 23rd place and missing the cut at a national tournament for the first time since 2013, and only the second time ever.
  • Men's Golf Places Three on All-South Region Squad

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team saw three members earn spots on the Ping All-South Region team Tuesday night as part of the festivities surrounding the NCAA Division III Golf Championship at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Sophomores Jacob Arnett, Patrick Mills and Kyle Shealy all earned their second consecutive All-Region nods from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team is in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, this week, getting set for their 18th overall appearance at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship. The event will take place Tuesday through Friday and will be co-hosted by Oglethorpe and the Central Florida Sports Commission at Mission Inn Resort and Club. It will represent the 17th consecutive appearance for the Stormy Petrels at the prestigious event.
  • Nine Stormy Petrels Named to SAA Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams

    The SAA released their Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams Tuesday, recognizing student-athletes who displayed outstanding sportsmanship over the course of their seasons. The nine Stormy Petrels join a total of 79 student-athletes among the conference's eight full-time members across its 10 sponsored spring sports.
  • Men's Golf Qualifies for 17th Consecutive NCAA Division III Championship

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team qualified for its 18th overall appearance at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship Monday afternoon, as it earned an at-large bid to the event, which will be held at the Mission Inn Club and Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, May 16 through 19. The Stormy Petrels' selection on Monday also marks their 17th consecutive appearance at the event.
  • Men's Golf Finishes Regular Season Seventh in Coaches Poll

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team wound out the regular season at No. 7 in the final Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll of the campaign, released Friday by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The Stormy Petrels dropped a single spot from No. 6 in the April 21 poll after taking home third place at the SAA Golf Championships in Arkansas April 21 through 23.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2016-17 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Fifth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the Turner Lynch Campus Center on Oglethorpe's campus. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2016-17 athletic year as a whole.
  • Arnett, Shealy Named Jack Nicklaus Award Semifinalists

    The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) named Oglethorpe sophomore men's golfers Jacob Arnett and Kyle Shealy as semifinalists for the 2017 Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award Friday. It marks the second consecutive Nicklaus Award semifinalist nod for Shealy, and the first such honor of Arnett's career.
  • Men's Golf Finishes Third in Tightly-Contested SAA Championship

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team finished third at the SAA Golf Championships in Maumelle, Arkansas, this weekend, finishing the 54-hole tournament with a 10-over-par 298 on Sunday to come in at 30-over 894 for the weekend. That put them at just four strokes back of champions Rhodes.

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team dropped three spots in the latest Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, moving into the No. 6 spot in the rankings in the latest poll release from the Golf Coaches Association of America. The Stormy Petrels finished third at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Golf Championship and sixth at the Discover DeKalb Emory Spring Invitational. They dropped to sixth from third in the previous poll, a height they attained after finishing tied for second at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.
  • Spring Teams Compete for SAA Championships This Weekend

    This weekend marks the first of three that will feature SAA championship competition, and a number of Stormy Petrel teams will be competing Friday through Sunday for conference bragging rights, including golf, women's lacrosse, tennis, and track and field.
  • Oglethorpe to Co-Host 2022 NCAA Division III Tennis and Men's Golf Championships

    The NCAA selected Oglethorpe University to co-host two of the organization’s Division III national championship events Tuesday. The university will host the 2022 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship and the 2022 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships in conjunction with the Central Florida Sports Commission (CFSC).
  • Patrick Mills Earns Second SAA Men's Golfer of the Week Award

    Sophomore Patrick Mills of the Oglethorpe men's golf team earned SAA Co-Men's Golfer of the Week accolades Wednesday from the league's coaches, marking the second time this season that he's shared the award with a fellow SAA golfer. Mills joined Berry's Ryan Elmore as the two recipients of this week's award, as the pair finished tied for sixth at the Discover DeKalb Emory Spring Invitational in Stone Mountain over the weekend.

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team fired a 20-over-par 300 on Saturday in the opening round of the Discover DeKalb Emory Spring Invitational at the Smoke Rise Country Club in Stone Mountain. That mark put them in seventh place headed to Sunday's final round, 11 strokes back of leaders Huntingdon.

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team vaulted four spots up the rankings in the latest Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll moving into the No. 3 spot in the rankings in the latest poll release from the Golf Coaches Association of America. The Stormy Petrels used a second-place finish at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational to move up into the top three position. It's the highest Oglethorpe has risen in the men's golf poll this season, after they started in the No. 4 position in September.
  • Men's Golf Finishes Third at Camp Lejeune Championship

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team completed a solid weekend at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Championship with an outstanding final round on Saturday at Paradise Point on the Marine base in eastern North Carolina Sunday, carding a 6-over-par 294 amid very difficult wind conditions to maintain their third-place standing at the 54-hole tournament. They gained a couple strokes on first-place Methodist to finish 15 strokes behind the Monarchs. The Stormy Petrels finished behind a group of individuals from Division I Duke, as well.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics to Celebrate Start of Division III Week with Cookout on Sunday, April 2

    The Oglethorpe athletic department will celebrate the start of NCAA Division III Week on Sunday, April 2, with a cookout that will be ongoing during the baseball game against Centre and the men's lacrosse game against Hendrix that afternoon. The cookout will take place from noon to 3 p.m., and will be held at Petey's Party Pavilion, the landing overlooking right field at Anderson Field.
  • Jacob Arnett Nabs SAA Men's Golfer of the Week Honors

    Sophomore Jacob Arnett of the Oglethorpe men's golf team earned SAA Men's Golfer of the Week accolades Wednesday, as voted by the league's coaches, marking the second consecutive tournament out of which an Oglethorpe men's golfer has taken SAA Golfer of the Week honors and the first weekly conference honor of Arnett's career.
  • Men's Golf Ties for Second Place at Jekyll Island; Arnett Wins First Career Individual Medal

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team recovered very well from a rocky first day at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational this weekend, playing excellent golf over the remaining two days at the Jekyll Island Golf Club and finishing tied for second overall, four strokes back of champions Greensboro, after posting a 7-over-par 295 for the day and a 15-over 879 for the tournament as a whole.
  • Men's Golf Set to Host 18th Annual Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

    Oglethorpe University and the Jekyll Island Authority are set to welcome 30 men's teams and 24 women's teams to the Jekyll Island Golf Club Friday through Sunday for the 18th annual Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. This year's field has teams from 18 states, and will include 310 players from some of the best programs in the country. The men's field will feature 15 of the top 25 in the most recent Golfstat Relative Ranking. Remarkably, 24 of the teams in the tournament are ranked in the top 60, making this the deepest field in tournament history.

  • Men's Golf Fires Final Round 297 to Move Five Spots Up Leaderboard into Third Place at Callaway Gardens

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team fired the best round of any of the 18 teams involved in the Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational Tuesday, putting up a 9-over-par 297 to vault five spots up the leaderboard and finish in third place at 24-over 600 for the tournament, just four strokes behind champions Emory.

The Stormy Petrels fell from fourth position in the previous poll down to seventh in the current one after a third place finish in the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational and a ninth place finish at the Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational, both in October.
  • Park Leads Men's Golf Individuals at Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team finished out its fall season with some very good performances from a group of six individuals Tuesday at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational in Rome, Georgia. The group on was led on Tuesday by freshman Kenny Park, who carded the best round by any Stormy Petrel over the course of the 36-hole tournament at Stonebridge Golf Club. He posted an even-par 72 to move 28 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 15th place at 5-over-par 149, 14 strokes behind individual medalist Osborn Theam from LaGrange.
  • Men's Golf Finishes Golfweek D3 Invite in Ninth Place, Garnering Fourth Top 10 Finish of Fall

    The Oglethorpe men's golf team put up its best round of the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational Tuesday at the Raven Golf Club, posting an 8-over-par 292 to finish ninth with a 3-day, 36-over-par 888 for the week at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida. That mark put them 34 strokes behind champion Texas-Tyler and made them one of a pair of SAA teams to place in the top 10.
