The Oglethorpe men's golf team earned the No. 7 spot in the latest Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, released Friday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Stormy Petrels maintained the seventh spot from the previous poll after a third-place finish at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate in Pine Mountain on Monday and Tuesday.
Huntingdon remained at the top spot for the fifth poll in a row with 13 of a possible 17 first-place votes. Texas-Tyler snagged a couple of first-place votes to remain at No. 2, while SAA opponent Rhodes moved up a spot into third. No. 4 Mary Hardin-Baylor dropped a spot despite gaining a pair of first-place votes. Emory moved up five spots to No. 5 after winning at Callaway Gardens, while Wittenberg, Concordia (Texas), LaGrange and Methodist rounded out the remaining top 10.
The Petrels served as one of a whopping five SAA teams to earn a spot in the top 25. In addition to Oglethorpe and Rhodes, Berry came in at No. 16, Sewanee at No. 17, and Centre at No. 20.
Oglethorpe was also one of four teams from Georgia to make their way into the poll, with the Petrels, Emory, LaGrange and Berry all earning spots. Piedmont also received votes in the poll.
The Petrels will be back in action March 17 through 19, when they head down to Jekyll Island for their annual Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.
