Patrick Mills Earns Second SAA Men's Golfer of the Week Award

Sophomore Patrick Mills of the Oglethorpe men's golf team earned SAA Co-Men's Golfer of the Week accolades Wednesday from the league's coaches, marking the second time this season that he's shared the award with a fellow SAA golfer. Mills joined Berry's Ryan Elmore as the two recipients of this week's award, as the pair finished tied for sixth at the Discover DeKalb Emory Spring Invitational in Stone Mountain over the weekend.

Mills fired successive rounds of 1-over-par 71 and even-par 70 over the 2-day event to finish at 1-over 141 for the 36-hole tournament. That put he and Elmore seven strokes back of Huntingdon's Addison Lambeth, the tournament's individual medalist.

Mills also shared the SAA Men's Golfer of the Week award on March 9 after tying with Sewanee's Gray Matthews for third at the Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational in Pine Mountain. He has two sixth-place finishes this spring, the other coming earlier this month at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Golf Championship. He also finished fourth at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational in March.

"What a spring season Patrick is having!," said Oglethorpe Director of Golf Jim Owen. "He's made four straight all-tournament teams after finishing in the top six of each tournament he's played in over the course of our regular spring schedule. That's something which hasn't been done in several years. He has thrown the team on his shoulders and carried us through the spring season with his consistent outstanding play!"

The Petrels will now get ready for the SAA Golf Championships, which are set to take place April 21 through 23 at the Maumelle Country Club in Maumelle, Arkansas. Through that tournament, they'll be looking to secure qualification to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship May 16 through 19 at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. That event will be co-hosted by Oglethorpe University and the Central Florida Sports Commission.
