Reinhardt College got a measure of revenge on the Oglethorpe men's lacrosse squad on Saturday afternoon by topping the Petrels 15-5 at North Forsyth High School in Cumming, Ga. Oglethorpe recorded their first-ever victory in lacrosse against Reinhardt just a year ago but the Golden Eagles returned the favor on this windy day.
The Petrels seemed to be in good shape early on, rattling off three consecutive goals in the first quarter to race to a 3-1 advantage. Arness Holsey began the spurt with an unassisted strike before junior Michael Kasmarik assisted separate Petrels on back-to-back goals. Kasmarik's first deft pass led to Coleman Plaisted's first collegiate tally, and Kasmarik's second dish set up Ben Caoili to give the Petrels a two goal cushion.
Unfortunately, things quickly went South for Oglethorpe as the Golden Eagles dominated the second quarter with an 8-1 goal scored advantage to open up a 9-4 halftime lead. Holsey posted the only Oglethorpe score in the second period.
Reinhardt extended the lead all the way out to 13-4 by netting the only three strikes of the third quarter to put the game away. At the end, the Golden Eagles had scored 12 out of 13 goals on their way to winning by a double-digit margin. Holsey added his third goal of the game in the fourth but Oglethorpe was far behind at that stage.
The Petrels are now 0-2 on the season and will face Susquehana in their home opener on March 6 at 3:30 p.m. on Salamone Field.
