Junior attack Michael Kasmarik scored a fourth quarter goal with 44 seconds left to tie Rhodes College at 10 apiece on Firday afternoon in Memphis, Tenn. as the Petrels took on the Lynx. Rhodes regrouped, however, to get the sudden death win 11-10 in overtime.
The Petrels looked primed to score a conference victory as they rushed out to an early 3-0 lead on the strength of an Arness Holsey hat-trick to start the game. Kasmarik added his first goal of the game in the second quarter to give the Petrels a 4-2 lead heading into halftime.
Kasmarik then notched a hat-trick of his own in the third with two more tallies to give Oglethorpe a 6-3 cushion. The Lynx closed the quarter, however, with four straight goals to nudge in front 7-6 heading to the fourth.
Oglethorpe jumped back in front early in the fourth as Holsey netted his fourth goal of the contest and Coleman Plaisted followed with his first. The Lynx reclaimed the lead after two straight goals before Kasmarik netted his fourth strike midway through the quarter to tie the score at 9 apiece.
It would be Kasmarik scoring yet again on a feed from Jake Godwin with just 44 ticks left to send the game into overtime. Unfortunately, the Lynx took advantage of the sudden death situation first to get the win.
The Petrels will look to get back in the win column on Sunday when they face Millsaps in Jackson, Miss.
