Men's Lacrosse Picks Up First Win of Season, 13-4, Over Point University

The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team won its first game of the season Monday evening, defeating Point University 13-4 on the new Oglethorpe Track and Field.

The Petrels dominated the game statistically, outshooting the visiting Skyhawks 54-17, including 33-7 on goal. Oglethorpe also collected 41 ground balls to Point's 18.

In the first quarter, Oglethorpe fell behind 1-0, but three straight goals from junior attackman Arness Holsey put the Petrels up 3-1 and secured his second hat trick in as many games. They led 3-2 at the end of the first.

In the second, though, the Petrels outscored Point 5-1, getting two goals each from sophomore Ben Caoili and junior Dylan Stanley, and another goal from senior midfielder Maseo Brown. Up 8-3 at halftime, Oglethorpe looked to expand their lead in the second half, and did just that. Holsey scored his fourth goal of the game in the third quarter and entered the fourth with a 9-4 lead.

They put the game away in the fourth quarter, getting two more goals from Holsey and a goal each from senior defender Nick Pizzo and freshman midfielder Matt Hardwick, securing their first victory of the season.

Holsey finished with six goals on 15 shots, 12 of which were on target. He also tallied an assist on the evening. Caoili scored two goals, passed out two assists, picked up nine ground balls, and won 15-of-21 faceoffs. Stanley scored two goals and one assist.

Junior goalkeeper Cooper O'Brien made a save on five shots and picked up five ground balls.

The 1-1 Stormy Petrels are in action next Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. against Augustana (Ill.) from the new Oglethorpe Track and Field.
