The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team suffered a blowout defeat at the hands of Bridgewater (Va.) Sunday afternoon, falling 18-0 to the visiting Eagles at the new Oglethorpe Track and Field.
The team kept it relatively close for awhile, as they were behind just 2-0 at the end of the first quarter, and 6-0 at halftime, but Bridgewater really turned it on in the second half. The Petrels were outscored 6-0 in both the third and fourth periods.
Junior Dylan Stanley fired four shots on the day, while sophomore Jake Goodwin sent three shots toward net, all of them finding their target, but all of them stopped by the Bridgewater goalie. Freshman defender John Shramek picked up eight ground balls for the Petrels, while sophomore Ben Caoili snared six while going 14-for-21 from the faceoff circle.
Junior goalie Cooper O'Brien stopped 11 Eagle shots before leaving in the fourth quarter with an injury.
The loss drops the Petrels to 2-5 on the season. They will next take the new turf field Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. They will welcome Transylvania onto campus for the contest.
