Men's Lacrosse Falls at Sewanee in SAA Quarters to End Season

The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team suffered a 23-2 season-ending loss at Sewanee in the SAA quarterfinals Saturday.

The Petrels got behind the eight-ball early in this one, as the home-standing Tigers led 11-0 at the end of the first quarter. This made it very difficult for the Petrels to mount any type of a comeback, and though they started the second quarter with an Arness Holsey goal and played much better defensively in the period, they still trailed 13-1 at the break.

In the third quarter, Sewanee removed all doubt by outscoring the Petrels 6-0 in the period and taking a 19-1 lead. Holsey added a second goal with 2:45 remaining in the game, but that was all they would get.

The Petrels found themselves outshot by a 55-12 margin, 28-5 on goal. They turned the ball over 26 times to 18 for the Tigers, picked up just 31 ground balls to Sewanee's 51, successfully cleared the ball just nine of 23 times, and won nine of 28 faceoffs.

Holsey scored the team's two goals on the evening, doing so on seven shots. Ben Caoili scooped 12 of Oglethorpe's 31 ground balls on the day.

The loss means the Petrels finish the season with a record of 2-14.
