Men's Lacrosse Falls to Emmanuel (GA) in Season Opener

The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team fell to Emmanuel (GA) Saturday afternoon in Franklin Springs, Ga., 23-8.

The Stormy Petrels got two goals each from freshman midfielder Vaughn Greene, junior midfielder Jake Godwin and senior attacker Arness Holsey. In addition, they picked up goals from freshman attacker Zach Pagan and junior midfielder Ben Caoili. Pagan, Caoili and freshman defender Rhyne Cordle picked up three ground balls each. Senior goalie Cooper O'Brien stopped 11 shots.

Overall, the home-standing Lions outshot the Petrels 46-41, picked up 35 ground balls to Oglethorpe's 28 and forced 12 turnovers to the Petrels' eight. The Petrels won 20-of-27 faceoffs and were successful on 11-of-19 clearance attempts.

The loss drops the Stormy Petrels to 0-1 on the young season. They'll return home to the Oglethorpe Track and Field Friday to take on Reinhardt in their home opener.
