The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team fell behind Reinhardt early Friday night at Oglethorpe Track and Field, then had to withstand a heavy rainstorm as they attempted to come back. They could not muster it, losing 15-3.
The Stormy Petrels fell behind early in this game, 2-0. After getting a goal from senior attackman Arness Holsey to pull the Petrels back to within one, they simply could not stop the visiting Eagles. They fell behind 6-1 at half and Reinhardt extended the lead after halftime. Holsey picked up a hat trick for the game on seven shots, providing a bright spot for the Petrels.
The weather was dry in the first half, but a heavy rain storm commenced in the second half, making Oglethorpe's potential comeback even more difficult.
The game was a penalty-marred affair, as the teams combined for 17 penalty minutes on 19 total penalties. The Petrels served 5:30 on six infractions while the Eagles served a whopping 11:30 on 13 total infractions.
Both teams committed 16 turnovers and Reinhardt just barely beat the Petrels to ground balls, 25-22, but the Eagles outshot the Petrels, 38-24. This included a 17-6 tally in shots on goal. Reinhardt also won 11-of-18 faceoffs.
The 0-2 Petrels will now travel to North Georgia to take on Piedmont in Demorest on Wednesday. The game will get started at 7 p.m.
