  • Nine Stormy Petrels Named to SAA Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams

    The SAA released their Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams Tuesday, recognizing student-athletes who displayed outstanding sportsmanship over the course of their seasons. The nine Stormy Petrels join a total of 79 student-athletes among the conference's eight full-time members across its 10 sponsored spring sports.
  • Men's Lacrosse Coach Nathan Young to Head Out on Summer Recruiting Tour

    Oglethorpe head men's lacrosse coach Nathan Young will soon hit the road again as he looks to bring in an outstanding recruiting class for the 2018 season. Young will be traveling to a number of recruiting camps around the Atlanta area, and will also be headed to Chicago, as well as Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland and Ohio.
  • Nathaniel Gillespie Earns Men's Lacrosse All-SAA Honorable Mention

    Sophomore middie Nathaniel Gillespie of the Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team earned All-SAA Honorable Mention from the league's coaches on Tuesday, marking the first All-SAA nod of his career and the first by a Stormy Petrel since the 2013 season.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2016-17 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Fifth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the Turner Lynch Campus Center on Oglethorpe's campus. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2016-17 athletic year as a whole.
  • Men's Lacrosse Game at Millsaps Canceled
    April 16, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team's season-ending game against Millsaps in Jackson, Mississippi, originally scheduled for Sunday, April 16, has been canceled and will not be made up. As it was an SAA contest, the game will be ruled a forfeit in favor of the Stormy Petrels for purposes of the year-end conference standings. However, the game will not be tallied on Oglethorpe's official overall record, as the game goes down as a "no contest" per NCAA regulations.
  • Men's Lacrosse Ends Season with 21-7 Defeat at Birmingham-Southern

    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team saw their season wind down with a 21-7 defeat at the hands of Birmingham-Southern in Alabama Friday night. The Stormy Petrels got a hat trick from sophomore middie Tyler Stridiron and 2 goals from sophomore attackman Nathaniel Gillespie, but it wasn't enough to overcome the homestanding Panthers. The Petrels ended the season at 1-15 overall and 0-6 in SAA play.
  • Men's Lacrosse Drops Final Home Contest of Season to Sewanee, 23-4

    The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team lost an SAA matchup Sunday at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, falling to the visiting Sewanee Tigers 23-4. The result dropped the team to 1-14 on the season overall and 0-5 in SAA play.

    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team fell to SAA opponent Hendrix Sunday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, 26-5. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 1-12 on the season overall and 0-3 in SAA play.

    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Rhodes Lynx, 21-5, Friday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. The loss dropped the team to 1-11 on the season and 0-2 in SAA play.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics to Celebrate Start of Division III Week with Cookout on Sunday, April 2

    The Oglethorpe athletic department will celebrate the start of NCAA Division III Week on Sunday, April 2, with a cookout that will be ongoing during the baseball game against Centre and the men's lacrosse game against Hendrix that afternoon. The cookout will take place from noon to 3 p.m., and will be held at Petey's Party Pavilion, the landing overlooking right field at Anderson Field.
  • March 25 Men's Lacrosse Game against Sewanee Postponed; Will Be Made Up Sunday, April 9

    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse game against SAA opponent Sewanee, originally scheduled for Saturday at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, has been postponed, and will be made up on Sunday, April 9, at 3 p.m. at the same venue.
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls to Kalamazoo, 15-3

    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team got off to a slow start against the visiting Kalamazoo Hornets Saturday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, and couldn't recover, as the visitors pulled away in the second half for a 15-3 win. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 1-10 on the season.
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls at Home to Southwestern

    The Oglethorpe men?s lacrosse team got off on the wrong foot this evening against the Southwestern (Texas) Pirates and never recovered, as they lost 25-7. The Stormy Petrels are now 1-9 for the season.
  • Men's Lacrosse Drops Final Game of Spring Break Week to Randolph, 16-4

    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team faced off against the visiting Randolph WildCats Thursday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field and trailed wire-to-wire in a 16-4 defeat. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 1-8 on the season.
  • Men's Lacrosse Loses Tight One to Franciscan to Close Out Spring Break Trip

    The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team came up short in a heartbreaking loss Monday afternoon in Bethany, West Virginia, after leaving all they had on the field against the Franciscan Barons in a neutral site contest. They crawled their way back from a 5-goal deficit to within a single goal late, but unfortunately ran out of time in a 14-13 loss. The Stormy Petrels are now 1-7 for the season.
  • Andrew Kwapil Earns SAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week Honors

    Oglethorpe sophomore defenseman Andrew Kwapil took SAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts last week, awarded today by the league office. The award marked the first time in Kwapil's career that he's won an SAA weekly award, and the first time this season that a member of the Stormy Petrels has.
  • Men's Lacrosse Defeats Bethany 11-8 for First Victory of Season
    March 04, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team picked up their first win of the season Saturday against the Bethany Bison in Bethany, West Virginia, defeating them 11-8 using a squad with just 10 men, meaning there were no subs available. The depleted Stormy Petrels played well, however, and were in the lead for most of the game. They never allowed Bethany to secure a lead of their own. Starting in the second period and bridging over to the third, the Petrels went on a 6-0 run, giving them an 8-2 advantage. The home team was able to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but 3 late Oglethorpe goals secured the victory and improved the squad to 1-6 on the season.
  • Men's Lacrosse Begins SAA Play with Road Loss to Berry

    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team dropped the opener of its Southern Athletic Association season Wednesday evening to the in-state rival Berry Vikings in Mount Berry, falling 24-2. The Stormy Petrels were scoreless in the last three periods of the game, and fell to 0-6 for the season and 0-1 in SAA play.
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls to Piedmont in In-State Road Contest

    The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team had a tough loss Sunday in Demorest against the Piedmont Lions. The Lions started the game with a 6-0 run and wound up with a 22-4 victory over the Stormy Petrels. This brings Oglethorpe to an 0-5 record for the season.
  • Men's Lacrosse Drops Home Contest to Huntingdon at Oglethorpe Track and Field

    The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team had a tough game Wednesday night against the visiting Huntingdon Hawks. The Stormy Petrels fell behind early in the game and were not able to fight their way back, falling to the Hawks 19-4. This brings the Petrels to 0-4 for the season.
  • Men's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest to Methodist
    February 19, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team got off to a rough start Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville, North Carolina, against the homestanding Methodist Monarchs, and were unable to recover in a 25-4 defeat. Methodist scored 13 goals in the opening quarter and 19-1 over the opening half. The Stormy Petrels held them to 6 goals while scoring 3 in the second, but the damage was done. With the loss, the team fell to 0-3 on the young season.
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls to Greensboro in First Road Game of Season
    February 17, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team had a tough afternoon Friday against the home standing Greensboro Lions in North Carolina. The Lions scored 16 goals within the first three periods of the game before the Petrels could get on the scoreboard. The Petrels suffered a devastating 19-2 loss.
  • Men's Lacrosse Opens Season with Defeat to Point University
    February 08, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team opened its season Wednesday evening at the Oglethorpe Track and Field against Point University in a game that was relocated to Atlanta from Point's campus in West Point because of unplayable field conditions at the latter. The visiting Skyhawks used three goals in the final minute of the second quarter and a 6-1 scoring margin in the third quarter to pull away from the Stormy Petrels for a 19-3 victory. The loss means that the Petrels start the season 0-1.

    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team returns this week, and looks to continue to move their way up the SAA standings this season. They'll return a handful of players from the 2016 team that finished their season with a 13-12 victory over Millsaps, and will welcome several talented newcomers into the fold for the 2017 season.

    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team's season opener against Point University, originally scheduled as a road game at Point's campus in West Point, will now take place at the Oglethorpe Track and Field due to unplayable conditions at Point University's campus. The game is set to get underway at 5 p.m.

The events will culminate with a fundraiser at the SAA soccer doubleheader against Sewanee Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the Oglethorpe Track and Field.
