He tallied 18 assists and 42 points this season, breaking the Petrels' single-season records in both categories.

He finishing in the SAA's top 10 in goals, assists and points over the course of the 2017 season. His 24 goals placed him ninth on the list, while his 18 assists placed him sixth and his 42 points put him eighth. He was also in the league's top 15 in faceoff wins (36) and shots on goal (46).

"Gillespie optimizes what it means to be a team player," said Oglethorpe head coach Nathan Young. "Whether it means taking faceoffs, playing defense, or even playing in goal, he will do whatever is best for the team. If we had a team full of guys with his spirit, we would be a great team. I am glad he is finally getting recognized for his contributions on the field."
