Men's soccer star Mark Lavery participated in the United Soccer League Pro Combine held at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida January 26-29. Lavery, a senior defender who earned All-America honors after the Petrels historic 2011 season, was one of only 97 players nationwide to be accepted to the elite combine.
The participating players were divided into six squads with each team playing three matches over the duration of the four-day event. The IMG Academies soccer facility, which regularly houses Major League Soccer teams for preseason training, provided great support for the players as they attempt to reach the next level.
Lavery's showing was particularly impressive as it earned him an invite to tryout for the USL First Division squad the Charleston Battery. Check back to gopetrels.com for updates on Lavery's quest to earn a spot with a professional soccer club.
