Oglethorpe senior goalkeeper Frank Petersen was named the MVP of the Sonny Carter Invitational and five Petrels, including Petersen, were named to the All-Tournament Team over the weekend. The Petrels won the tournament for the second consecutive season.
In addition to being named tournament MVP, Petersen was named an All-Tournament goalkeeper. Junior Nikos Papanikolopoulos picked up honors as an All-Tournament defender, junior Sean King was named an All-Tournament midfielder, and sophomore Jakub Madej and junior Nick Williamson brought home All-Tournament forward honors.
Petersen recorded nine saves on 11 shots on goal over the course of the two games, withstanding an onslaught in the second half of Oglethorpe's game with Kean to preserve the Petrel victory.
Madej was the only individual player to score two goals over the course of the tournament. Both his goals came in the first half against Kean. King and Williamson scored a goal each over the course of the weekend, with Williamson tallying an assist, as well.
The Petrels will be involved in another tournament this upcoming weekend, when they will travel to the campus of Berry College for the Winshape Invitational.
