Two Men's Soccer Players Make All-SAA Team
Two members of the Oglethorpe men's soccer team made All-SAA teams this week, while four others gained honorable mention status, as voted by the league's coaches.
Sophomore forward Carlos Gaston was named First Team All-SAA, marking his second consecutive all-conference accolade. He was a member of the All-SCAC Third Team last season. He finished second in the league and first on the team in goals with 11, despite only finishing tied for eighth in the SAA in shots taken. He also finished second in the league and first on the team in points with 25, adding three assists to his tally of 11 goals.
The league's coaches also named junior defender Nikos Papanikolopoulos to the All-SAA Second Team for his tireless defensive work. This also marks Papanikolopoulos' second appearance on an all-conference team, as he made the All-SCAC Second Team last season. His integral work as part of the Petrels' back line has made him one of the best defenders in the conference, and his ability to get forward on set pieces resulted in two goals, as well.
Sophomore forward Jakub Madej, senior forward Ben Robertson, senior goalkeeper Frank Petersen and junior midfielder Sean King all garnered All-SAA honorable mention honors from the coaches, meaning that they all received at least one vote for either the first or second teams. Madej finished in a tie for fourth in the league in goals, Petersen finished fourth in the SAA in saves and Robertson tied for sixth in assists. King was a stalwart at midfield for the Petrels all season long. Petersen was the All-SCAC Second Team goalkeeper last season, while King garnered Third Team All-SCAC honors. Robertson was a member of the All-SCAC Third Team as a freshman in 2009.
