Playing a conference opponent for the first time in 2012, the men's tennis team was topped by Sewanee in Tennessee on Saturday afternoon, 8-1. The Tigers scratched out a 9-7 win in the No. 3 doubles match to earn all three doubles points and set Sewanee up for victory.
The No.'s 1 and 2 doubles teams for Oglethorpe lost 8-1 and 8-2, respectively before Ethan Motz and Chris Noonberg took their Sewanee counterparts to the limit before succombing by the score of 9-7.
Freshman Kirk Zhao won the Petrels lone point of the match by winning the No. 3 singles match 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (2). The Tigers wrapped up the match by winning the other 5 dsingles matches in straight sets. Complete Sewanee match results listed below.
The men are now 2-3 on the season and will get set for a big host weekend on Downing Howell Courts where Birmingham-Southern (Friday at 3:30 p.m.), Mississippi College (Saturday at 9 a.m.) and Reinhardt (Saturday at 3 p.m.) come calling.
