Men's Tennis Defeats Oxford in Final Event of Fall

The Oglethorpe men's tennis team picked up an 8-1 victory over junior college side Oxford on Friday, rounding out their fall season in excellent form.

In doubles play, the freshman duo of Walker Benson and Elijah Bullock took their No. 1 doubles match 8-4, while sophomores Dustin Bowie and Zoe Raymond did the same at No. 2 by the same score, 8-4. The Stormy Petrels' No. 3 doubles team won in a walkover, giving the Petrels a 3-0 lead headed into the singles portion of the competition.

In singles, the Petrels took five of the six matches. Benson defeated his opponent at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2. Meanwhile, Bowie had a tough matchup at No. 2. He came out with the tough 3-set victory, though, winning 6-1, 0-6, 1-0(3). Raymond took down the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-3, while Bullock won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4. The Petrels won the No. 6 match in a walkover, and the only defeat came at No. 5, where sophomore Alex Garcia fell 6-0, 6-1.

The Petrels will now break for the winter, but will return Feb. 24, when they'll take on Rose-Hulman from the Howell Courts at 10 a.m.
