Men's Tennis Earns 5-4 Comeback Win over Rose-Hulman to Start Season
The Oglethorpe men's tennis team kicked off their spring season at home on the Howell Courts in fine fashion on Saturday morning, defeating Rose-Hulman 5-4 in an exciting comeback victory.  
In doubles, the Petrels took two of the three matches.  In the first doubles matchup, juniors Richard Johnson and Michael Santaloci lost 8-4. The Petrels' No. 2 doubles team of freshmen Walker Benson and Calvin Schneider tied it up at 1-1 with a 9-7 win. The No. 3 doubles team of sophomores Dustin Bowie and Zoe Raymond won 8-4, giving the Petrels a 2-1 advantage before the singles portion of the competition.  
In singles, the Petrels lost their first three, but came back strong, winning the final three matches to clinch the victory. With their team down 4-2, Raymond, Santaloci and Schneider all came up big to secure the win. Raymond won 7-5, 6-0 at No. 4, while Santaloci came in at 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and Schneider clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6. At No. 1, Johnson lost 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2, Benson lost the first set 6-1, but won the second 6-4 to force a third; Benson would lose the third set 6-4, though. Bowie was able to force three sets out of the No. 3 slot, but came up just short. He fell 8-6 in a first-set tiebreaker, before coming back to force a tiebreaker in the second set and winning it, 7-5. However, he was forced to retire down 4-1 in the third.  
The Petrels face Division I Citadel in an exhibition matchup on Sunday at 3 p.m. before getting back to Division III play next week. They'll host Covenant at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Reinhardt at 2:30 p.m. Friday, and Roanoke at 10 a.m. Saturday before heading out on spring break.
