The Oglethorpe track and field teams kicked off the season with an indoor meet at the spectacular Birmingham Crossplex on Thursday evening.
Freshman Katy Galli had a sensational start to her Petrel career by breaking the standing school record in the triple jump on all three of her jumps by over two feet.
There were two other near misses for records as well. Galli also came within a half inch of the long jump record while sophomore captain Raven Foust just missed the 400 meter dash record by .2 of a second.
There was no team scoring in the meet that gave squads the opportunity to prep for the spring slate.
"It was a great meet and competitive field for our season opener," said head coach Jan Spiro. "We have a very young team and our freshman had a chance to compete for the first time and had the opportunity to see where they are, and our coaching staff also used this chance to see what we need to work on going forward."
The Petrels are not back in action until after the new year when they travel to Sewanee on February 4th.
