Historic Day for Track Petrels
Competing against mostly Division I schools, the Oglethorpe Men's and Women's track and field team had a day to remember at the Birmingham Ice Breaker at the Crossplex complex.
The Petrels broke no less than nine indoor school records; the greatest single day in the history of the program. The records fell across the board, with both the women and men participating and across all disciplines as jumpers, sprinters and distance runners all became new record holders.
Here is a list of all the new standards:
Ky'Laine Rogers - 60-meter dash: 8.33 (Broke record set in 2006).
Ky'Laine Rogers - 200-meter dash: 26.45 (Owned old record).
Katy Galli - 60-meter hurdles: 9.56 (Owned old record).
Jacquawn Lockhart - 60-meter dash: 7.35 (Broke record set in 2002).
Jacquawn Lockhart - 200-meter dash: 23.68 (Broke record set in 1998).
Pablo Garcia - 800-meter run: 2:08.68 (Broke record set in 2005).
Pablo Garcia - Mile run: 4:43.25 (Broke record set in 2010).
Blake Jones - 60-meter hurdles: 9.38 (Broke record set in 2003).
Men's Distance Medley Relay - Pablo Garcia, Andre Smith, Alexander Johnson, Michael Caneega: 12.30.66.
Led by senior captain Sherry Blystone, the Petrels also established a number of personal records as they concluded the fall portion of their season. There was no team scoring at this meet. The team begins their spring season on January 15, hoping they have a few more days like this again.
