Streak Ends for Track Petrels in Savannah

On a cold and windy day, a two-and-a-half year streak of at least one school record at every meet came to an end Saturday at the loaded Tiger Relays at Savannah State University in Savannah, Ga. The Petrels, competing as the only Division III school at the meet,  were at times  overwhelmed with the level of competition and the weather conditions.

There were, however, some very creditable performances turned in. Senior captain Sherry Blystone set a personal record in the javelin throw while finishing fourth in a strong field. Junior multi-sport athlete Carrisa Thomas finished third in the women's pole vault while Senior distance runner Jeet Magar ran a great mile as part of the distance medley.

A number of relay teams had very good performances. The men's 4x200 and the women's 4x100 teams just missed records while the men's mile relay run leaves them in the top 20 nationally after yesterday.

Next up is a visit to Birmingham-Southern next weekend. The annual two day Southern Invitational will be a good test to see where the track Petrels stand versus SAA competition.
