The Oglethorpe cross-country teams both took eighth place at the SAA Championships Saturday on Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss.
For the men's team, Petrels captain Michael Caneega took 63rd place, first among Petrels, with a time of 29:53.65. Norman Cervantes followed with a time of 33:25.11. AJ Romine posted a time of 34:24.87 and Daniel Reveles followed closely with at 34:39.69. The Petrel men's team was rounded out by Alexander Johnson (35:34.15), Jeet Budha Magar (36:06.59) and Jake Godwin (36:17.28).
The Lady Petrels' three captains led the way for them with Tirzah Brown finishing 52nd overall at 26:51.75. Khadija Nasar finishded 56th at 27:19.70 and Katy Galli took 64th with a time of 29:09.42. Rounding out the Lady Petrel finishers were Nicole Ostermann (29:58.80), Jo O'Brien (30:55.02) and Carol Rubens (35:28.48).
Twelve of the 13 members of the men's and women's cross country team ran their best race of the season. Caneega, Brown and Nisar each moved higher on the list of Top 30 times run at Oglethorpe since the sport began. Rubens and Godwin, while neither finished among the first five runners on their squad, both completed a remarkable seasonal improvement. Each dropped 10 minutes from their time since running their first ever race in early September.
The Petrels will now prepare for the NCAA Regionals on November 10 at Nash Farms Battlefield in Hampton, Ga.
