Oglethorpe’s men’s and women’s cross country captains are looking forward to competing at the inaugural Southern Athletic Association Championships this Saturday on the Choctaw Trails course in Clinton, Miss. The event will be hosted by Millsaps College.
Sophomore captain Michael Caneega has finished first among Stormy Petres in every race since the beginning of the season. “He has steadily dropped his time since his freshman year last fall”, states Coach Bob Unger. “He has been a leader both on and off the field.”
The trio of women’s captains, juniors Tirzah Brown and Khadija Nisar, along with sophomore Katy Galli, have done the same for the women’s team. Brown has finished first in every race among Lady Petrels, while Nisar and Galli have taken turns finishing second.
All four captains own a spot among the top 30 times ever recorded for an Oglethorpe runner since the sport was first contested not long after the Atlanta campus opened its doors in the early 1900s. After competing in the SAA Championships in Mississippi this Saturday, the team will prepare to compete at the NCAA Regional Meet on Saturday, Nov. 10. That event will take place on the Nash Farms Battlefield course in Hampton, Ga., and will be hosted by Emory University.
