  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2016-17 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Fifth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the Turner Lynch Campus Center on Oglethorpe's campus. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2016-17 athletic year as a whole.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics to Celebrate Start of Division III Week with Cookout on Sunday, April 2

    The Oglethorpe athletic department will celebrate the start of NCAA Division III Week on Sunday, April 2, with a cookout that will be ongoing during the baseball game against Centre and the men's lacrosse game against Hendrix that afternoon. The cookout will take place from noon to 3 p.m., and will be held at Petey's Party Pavilion, the landing overlooking right field at Anderson Field.
  • Thirty-Eight Stormy Petrels Named to 2016 SAA Fall Academic Honor Roll

    The Oglethorpe athletic department saw 38 student-athletes named to the Southern Athletic Association 2016 Fall Sudent-Athlete Academic Honor Roll Friday.
  • Men's Cross Country Earns Coaches' All-Academic Honors

    The Oglethorpe men's cross country team was named an All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday, marking the first time the program has earned the honor since the 2012 season.
  • Five Stormy Petrels Named to SAA Fall All-Sportsmanship Teams

    The SAA released their 2016 Fall All-Sportsmanship Teams Tuesday, recognizing student-athletes who displayed outstanding sportsmanship over the course of their seasons. The five Stormy Petrels selected join a total of 55 student-athletes among the conference's eight full-time and four affiliate members across its seven sponsored fall sports.
  • Oglethorpe SAAC Finishes Successful First Annual Toy Drive for Patients at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

    The Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committtee (SAAC) wound up their First Annual Toy Drive last week and delivered the toys received to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital on Friday.
  • Cross Country Gets 17th Place Finish from Men at NCAA Regional; Tutt, Three Men Earn Top 100 Finishes

    The Oglethorpe cross country teams competed Saturday at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional in Mount Berry, Georgia, on the campus of Berry College, with the men finishing 17th out of 29 teams at the event. The Stormy Petrels also got several quality individual performances, as freshman Glenda Tutt finished 69th on the women's side and the men's team placed three members in the race's top 100.
  • Cross Country Gets Set for NCAA Regional Meet in Northwest Georgia

    The Oglethorpe cross country teams will travel up to Mount Berry, Georgia, for the third time this season on Saturday morning, as they get set to take part in the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional on the campus of Berry College. The men and women's teams will each be taking part in their first NCAA regional meet since 2012 and will look to cap off the year in excellent fashion with a strong showing on Saturday.
  • Cross Country Teams Have Successful Day at SAA Championships; Men Finish 6th, Women 7th

    The Oglethorpe cross country teams had their most successful day ever at the SAA Cross Country Championships Saturday. The Stormy Petrels took to the Choctaw Trails course in Clinton, Mississippi, and saw the men finish sixth and the women seventh. Those finishes are the highest each program has had at the SAA Championships. It's the best finish at a conference championships for the women since the 2000 SCAC Championships, while it's the best since the 1997 SCAC Championships for the men.
  • Cross Country Heads to Mississippi on Saturday for SAA Championships

    The Oglethorpe cross country teams will be in Clinton, Mississippi, Saturday morning for the SAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by Millsaps. The women will take to the six-kilometer course at Choctaw Trails at 11 a.m. Eastern while the men will get their eight-kilometer race started at noon Eastern.
  • Cross Country Competes at Berry Invitational; Men Finish 11th, Women Led by Stenn's Top 40 Finish

    The Oglethorpe cross country teams competed in their final meet before heading to Mississippi for the SAA Championships Saturday and put up a solid performance. The men finished 11th as a team with freshman Jonathan Vernon clocking in at 27 minutes, 28.1 seconds for the top individual performance by a Stormy Petrel, putting him in 44th place. The women's top individual performance came from freshman Hava Stenn, who finished 36th in the women's race.
  • Men's Cross Country Takes Second at Piedmont Invitational, Evans Wins Individual Race; Stenn Comes in 10th for Women

    The Oglethorpe cross country teams ran well at the Piedmont Invitational in Tallulah Falls, Georgia, Saturday morning. The men's team took second place at the event and freshman Nick Evans earned his first individual title, finishing in 28 minutes, 39.8 seconds on the 8-kilometer course and coming in around 30 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. The women's team had three runners, all of them finishing in the top 40, as freshman Hava Stenn with a 10th place finish on the 6-kilometer course at 25 minutes, 46.4 seconds.

  • Oglethorpe SAAC to Raise Money to Fight Pediatric Cancer on Family Weekend

    The Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be presenting a variety of activities surrounding Family Weekend here on campus. The events will culminate with a fundraiser at the SAA soccer doubleheader against Sewanee Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the Oglethorpe Track and Field.
  • Men's Cross Country Finishes Third at UNG Invitational; Women Runners Put in Solid Performance

    The Oglethorpe men's cross country team finished third at the UNG Invitational in Oakwood, Georgia, Saturday, marking an excellent performance against a field filled with Division II and NAIA competition. The Stormy Petrels came in with a time of two hours, 27 minutes and 29 seconds, just four minutes behind second-place Shorter and six behind first-place SCAD. The women's cross country team had several solid performances, as well, as the Petrels look to head into the second half of their season.
  • Cross Country Sweeps SAA Runner of the Week Awards

    The Oglethorpe cross country teams swept the awards for SAA Cross Country Runners of the Week Monday, with freshman Nick Evans earning the men's honors and freshman Hava Stenn doing the same for the women. Both athletes ran well at the Furman Cross Country Classic in Greenville, South Carolina, on Saturday.
  • Cross Country Performs Well at Furman Classic Among Division I Competition

    The Oglethorpe cross country teams traveled to Greenville, South Carolina, Saturday morning for the Furman Cross Country Classic and performed well in the process. The men's team finished 14th overall, seventh among non-Division I teams, and second among Division III teams. The women's team saw a school record fall on the day, as well.
  • Men's Cross Country Finishes Third, Women Fourth in Season-Opening Berry Watermelon Run

    The Oglethorpe cross country team put together a solid meet Thursday night at the Berry Watermelon Run in Mount Berry, Georgia, with the men finishing third and the women coming in fourth in the season-opening event in the Northwest Georgia twilight.

    The Oglethorpe men's cross country team is back this week with virtually a whole new squad, as they look to take aim at moving up the SAA standings. The squad will feature much more depth than the 2015 iteration, and that should help the Stormy Petrels in their quest to improve their conference standing.
  • Petey the Petrel Helps Gwinnett Braves Mascot Chopper Celebrate Birthday at Coolray Field

    Petey the Petrel, the beloved mascot of the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels, made an appearance at Gwinnett County's Coolray Field on Saturday night. Petey and a wide variety of other mascots from the Atlanta area were there to help celebrate Chopper's birthday during that evening's Gwinnett Braves game against the Rochester Red Wings. Chopper is the groundhog mascot of the Gwinnett Braves, the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
