The women's basketball team lost to Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn. on Friday night, 73-47. The Petrels never led as the Lynx raced out to a double-digit advantage late in the first half en route to the win.
Oglethorpe struggled to keep up with Rhodes as the Lynx jumped out early and continually upped the margin. The score was 21-6 at the 5:02 mark of the first half as the Petrels could only muster three field goals in the game's first 15 minutes. The Petrels tallied six straight to trim the margin to 21-12, but that would be the last time they trailed by fewer than 10 points. Rhodes spurted to a 30-17 halftime lead and the advantage would eventually swell to 46-21 early in the second stanza as the game got out of reach for Oglethorpe.
The Petrels were just 2-of13 from long distance on the night, hampering any comeback attempt. Riley Cerone led the squad with 9 points while three others - Mareva Bone, Sarah Giles and Ky'Laine Rogers - each tallied 8. Giles also added 10 rebounds to her totals to lead Oglethorpe in that department.
Oglethorpe will look to bounce back this Sunday when they square off with Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss.
