Women's Basketball Drops Final Holiday Tournament Game to Anderson, 60-51

The Oglethorpe women's basketball team lost their final game of the Country Inn and Suites Holiday Tournament Saturday afternoon, falling to Anderson (Ind.), 60-51.

The Lady Petrels led for much of the game, only to see the visiting Lady Ravens overtake them in the final five minutes and take the victory. Oglethorpe started the game on a 17-3 run and held that 14-point lead with 10:52 remaining in the first half. However, Anderson mounted an 18-5 run of their own to cut the Lady Petrel lead to one, 22-21, with six seconds remaining in the half. Oglethorpe got two late free throws to go back ahead by three, though, and they led at halftime by three points, 24-21.

In the second half, Oglethorpe quickly pushed the lead back out to nine points with an 8-0 run, dating back to the last two points of the first half. Over the next 15 minutes, though, Anderson slowly worked their way back into the game. They tied the game, 45-45, with 5:17 remaining, and actually took a five-point lead, 50-45, with 3:44 left in the game. The Lady Petrels mounted a five-point rally to re-even things at 50-50 with 2:12 remaining. However, the Lady Ravens went on a 10-1 run to close the game and complete the nine-point victory.

Freshman guard Kalin Williams finished with her first career double-double, pouring in a game-high 15 points and grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds. Senior center Sarah Giles scored 12 points on the day, as well.

Both teams shot under 30 percent for the game, and Oglethorpe shot just 15 percent from three-point range. The Lady Ravens outrebounded the Lady Petrels 49-37. Anderson outscored Oglethorpe 23-7 off the bench.

The loss drops the Lady Petrels to 2-7 on the season. They will next be in action next weekend, when they travel to Montgomery, Ala., for the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. They will play Transylvania Friday at 10 a.m. Eastern, then will take on host-team Huntingdon for the second time this season on Saturday.
