Women's Basketball Supporting Play4Kay Initiative at Tonight's Game

The Oglethorpe women's basketball team will be taking part in the Play4Kay initiative during tonight's game against Birmingham-Southern. The initiative benefits breast cancer awareness and research. The team will wear pink warm-up shirts as part of the evening.

The initiative is named in honor of former N.C. State head women's basketball coach Kay Yow, who died in January of 2009 after a 22-year, off-and-on battle with breast cancer. The initiative, as part of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, partners with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and The V Foundation to raise money for research, assist the underserved and unify people in a common cause against women's cancers.

The initiative has raised over $2 million since its inception in 2007, and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has raised over $7 million.

The Play4Kay initiative runs from February 8-18, leading up to ESPN's Play4Kay coverage February 17-18.
