Senior center Sarah Giles, and freshman guards Gabby Cole and Kalin Williams, were all named to the All-SAA honorable mention list yesterday evening. This marks Giles' second career all-conference designation.
Giles, a native of Marietta, Ga., has been a shot-blocking machine for Oglethorpe ever since she stepped on campus. She averaged 3.0 blocks per game this season, placing her first in the conference by a margin of 0.6 blocks per game. She accumulated a total of 79 blocked shots on the season, which is not only first in the conference, but ties her own school record. She now owns all of the top four shot-blocking season in Oglethorpe history. She also recorded 8.0 rebounds per game on the season, good for fifth in the league. On the season, she averaged 11.8 points per game, leading the team.
Williams, a native of Palmetto, Ga., finished third in the league in steals with 2.3 a game. She also finished fourth in the SAA in free-throw shooting, converting at a 73.3 percent rate. On the season, she averaged 11.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. This past weekend, she was named to the SAA All-Tournament team for her work against Rhodes. In the game, she scored 28 points, and shot 10-of-16 from the field, 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. She also grabbed five rebounds.
Cole, a native of Duluth, Ga., finished fourth in the conference in steals, with 1.7 per game. For the season, she averaged 10.0 points and 1.9 assists per game, while shooting 73.8 percent from the free-throw line. The latter mark would place her fourth in the league if she'd shot enough free throws on the year to qualify. Her best game of the season came against Hendrix on February 8, when she scored 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting.
