  • Women's basketball outslugs Guilford 47-42 in defensive struggle

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team struggled on the offensive end for the second straight game Sunday, but for the second straight game, they used outstanding defense and rebounding to defeat their opponent. This time, they earned a 47-42 victory over the Guilford Quakers Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House, improving to 8-1 on the season.
  • Savannah LeGate earns second SAA weekly honor of season

    Oglethorpe sophomore center Savannah LeGate received another weekly recognition from the SAA league office on Monday, earning the SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week award for the second time this season and for the second straight week in which the Stormy Petrels were active.
  • Women's basketball overcomes poor shooting night to knock off Berry in SAA opener

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team found themselves mired in a shooting slump for much of the evening Friday, but they used outstanding defense to hold down the homestanding Berry Vikings and eventually pulled away for a 52-39 win at the Cage Center in Mount Berry, Georgia, to open their conference slate.
  • LeGate wins SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week award

    The SAA office named Oglethorpe sophomore center Savannah LeGate the SAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. It marked the second career SAA weekly award for LeGate and her first of the 2018-19 season. 
  • Women's basketball blows out LaGrange, sweeps USA South/SAA Classic

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team cruised to victory over the homestanding LaGrange Panthers Sunday afternoon at the USA South/SAA Classic, improving to 6-1 on the season. The Stormy Petrels outscored LaGrange 41-8 in the first half, shooting 46.7 percent over the opening 30 minutes while holding the Panthers to just 3-for-19 from the field during that time.
  • Women's basketball hangs on for 81-72 win over Piedmont at USA South/SAA Classic

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team used an outstanding first half to grab a big lead on the Piedmont Lions Saturday in LaGrange, Georgia. The Stormy Petrels led 48-33 at the break then held on as Piedmont went on a big run and cut the Oglethorpe advantage to as little as seven in the second half. They were able to do enough to keep the Lions at arm's length, though, and came away with an 81-72 win to start their weekend at the USA South/SAA Classic and improve to 5-1 on the season.
  • Women's basketball outlasts Covenant, pulls away late for 71-59 win

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team found itself in a fight Tuesday evening against the homestanding Covenant Scots, falling behind by as many as eight points in the second quarter and six points in the third. The Stormy Petrels fought back, though, and outscored the home side 22-12 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 71-59 win at the Barnes PE Center in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
  • Women's basketball suffers first loss of season, falls 79-64 to Mary Hardin-Baylor

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team picked up their first loss of the season Sunday afternoon against Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Stormy Petrels couldn't withstand a poor shooting day and trailed by as many as 16 en route to a 79-64 defeat on the final day of the Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic in Birmingham, Alabama. The team fell to 3-1 on the young season.
  • Women's basketball starts Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic with 70-56 win over Rose-Hulman

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team got their second solid win away from home in six days Saturday, beating a Rose-Hulman team that made the NCAA tournament in 2017-18 to kick off their stay at the Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic in Birmingham, Alabama. The Stormy Petrels used a 23-12 first-quarter advantage and outstanding shooting over the course of the game to cruise to the 70-56 victory over the Engineers and improve to 3-0 on the young season.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team picked up a comprehensive win over Agnes Scott in their home opener Tuesday night at Dorough Field House, running past the Scotties 78-37 to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team opened its season in outstanding fashion Monday evening, earning a 71-64 overtime victory against crosstown rival Emory at the Eagles' Woodruff PE Center. It served as the Stormy Petrels' first road win over the Eagles since 2006.
  • LeGate Named Preseason All-America by Multiple Outlets (Updated)

    Sophomore center Savannah LeGate of the Oglethorpe women's basketball team has been named a preseason all-American by a pair of national Division III basketball publications in the lead-up to the 2018-19 season. The Stormy Petrel earned honors from both D3hoops.com and Women's DIII News.
