The Oglethorpe women's golf team started their fall season off last week with a sixth-place finish at the Piedmont Fall Invitational. The five-member team fired rounds of 352 and 367 for a total of 720.
The Lady Petrels were led by juniors Tori Van Wyen and Chelsea Gatterdam who both shot a two-day total of 175, good enough for a tie for 32nd place. Playing in their first collegiate tournament, freshmen Nicole Ricketson and Mary Roberts turned in solid performances, shooting 184 and 186, respectively, to finish 38th and 40th. Eric McPhee rounded out the scoring for the Petrels with a two-round total of 192, good for 41st place.
Methodist took the team title with a tournament-record 606, and Piedmont's Katarina Hodge shot 146 for her second individual Piedmont Invitational championship.
The next tournament the Petrels will participate in is the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational October 1-2, hosted by Berry at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Ga.
