Women's Golf Finishes Eighth at Rome News-Tribune Invitational

The Oglethorpe women's golf team finished eighth this week in the Rome News-Tribune Invitational, it's first event of the spring season. The Lady Petrels tallied a score of 678 in the 12-team event at the Coosa Country Club in Rome, Ga.

The team shot 338 in today's final round after yesterday's 340. They finished 63 strokes behind first-place Lee and 18 strokes behind sixth-place Berry, the tournament host. They came in 31 strokes ahead of ninth-place Huntingdon. The squad was hoping to shoot a round in the low 330s to facilitate a potential run on the hosts, but Berry finished strong with a 331, putting them out of reach.

Sophomore Jordan Krahn shot a final-round 78, breaking 80 for the first time in competition. She finished with a two-day total of 160, good for a 16th-place tie.  Junior Chelsea Gatterdam came on strong over the back-nine today, finishing with a one-over 37 for final-round total of 82, earning her a tie for 25th. Freshman Mary Roberts shot a final-round 90 for a total of 176 for a 44th-place tie, while junior Tori Van Wyen shot her second 89 of the week and 46th place. Sophomore Erin McPhee improved her score from Day 1 by three strokes, finishing with two-day total of 181 and a 51st-place tie. Freshman Nicole Ricketson finished 56th playing as an individual.

The team will now prepare for the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate next Friday at the Indian Mound Golf Course on Jekyll Island, Ga. This Friday, they'll participate in a dual match with Ohio Northern at the Country Club of Roswell in Roswell, Ga.
