    Saturday served as Graduation Day for Oglethorpe University, with a large number of Oglethorpe student-athletes receiving their diplomas on the school's academic quad on Saturday morning.
  • Nine Stormy Petrels Named to SAA Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams

    The SAA released their Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams Tuesday, recognizing student-athletes who displayed outstanding sportsmanship over the course of their seasons. The nine Stormy Petrels join a total of 79 student-athletes among the conference's eight full-time members across its 10 sponsored spring sports.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2016-17 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Fifth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the Turner Lynch Campus Center on Oglethorpe's campus. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2016-17 athletic year as a whole.
  • Women's Golf Finishes Third at SAA Championship, Highest Ever SAA Finish

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team earned its best ever finish at an SAA Championship this weekend in Maumelle, Arkansas, finishing off the 54-hole tournament at Maumelle Country Club Sunday by shooting 35-over-par 327 for the day. That was good enough for a third-place finish at 101-over 977, 14 strokes back of champions Sewanee.
  • Spring Teams Compete for SAA Championships This Weekend

    This weekend marks the first of three that will feature SAA championship competition, and a number of Stormy Petrel teams will be competing Friday through Sunday for conference bragging rights, including golf, women's lacrosse, tennis, and track and field.
  • Women's Golf Finishes Fourth at Callaway Golf Spring Invitational

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team completed their 36-hole stay at the Callaway Golf Greensboro College Spring Invitational Tuesday at Bryan Park in North Carolina, firing a 43-over-par 331 to finish the event in fourth place at 65-over 641. That mark allowed them to finish 33 strokes behind champions Methodist.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics to Celebrate Start of Division III Week with Cookout on Sunday, April 2

    The Oglethorpe athletic department will celebrate the start of NCAA Division III Week on Sunday, April 2, with a cookout that will be ongoing during the baseball game against Centre and the men's lacrosse game against Hendrix that afternoon. The cookout will take place from noon to 3 p.m., and will be held at Petey's Party Pavilion, the landing overlooking right field at Anderson Field.
  • Women's Golf Finishes 11th at Jekyll Island Collegiate

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team put up a solid 30-over-par 318 Sunday at the Jekyll Island Golf Club, moving them up a couple spots to 11th place among the stacked field at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. The Stormy Petrels finished the week 115-over 979 for the 54-hole event, putting themselves 45 strokes back of individual champions New York University on the Indian Mound course. The 318 was Oglethorpe's best round of the tournament, and proved to one of the top five rounds shot by a team on the day.
  • Women's Golf Set to Host 14th Annual Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

    Oglethorpe University and the Jekyll Island Authority are set to welcome 30 men's teams and 24 women's teams to the Jekyll Island Golf Club Friday through Sunday for the 18th annual Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. This year's field has teams from 18 states, and will include 310 players from some of the best programs in the country.
  • Women's Golf Finishes Seventh at Callaway Gardens

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team fired a 44-over-par 332 on Tuesday at the Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational in Pine Mountain, dropping them to seventh for the week with a 2-day total of 75-over 651, putting them 33 strokes behind champions Rhodes. However, that finish put the team well within the top half of the tournament field, as the Stormy Petrels came in four strokes ahead of Centre for eighth and nine ahead of Sewanee for ninth. Coupled with the team's top five opening round, it was an altogether successful tournament for the Petrels.
  • Women's Golf Starts Season with Match Play Loss to No. 5 Rhodes

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team got their spring season underway Sunday in Eatonton at the Great Waters Golf Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee. The Stormy Petrels took on the No. 5 Rhodes Lynx in a match play event and put up competitive rounds, but eventually fell to Rhodes 5.5-2.5 in the match play event.
  • National Girls and Women in Sports Day to Be Held Feb. 12 at Oglethorpe Track and Field

    The Oglethorpe athletic department and the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Oglethorpe Track and Field starting at 11:30 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved inside to the Schmidt Recreation Center.
  • Oglethorpe SAAC Finishes Successful First Annual Toy Drive for Patients at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

    The Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committtee (SAAC) wound up their First Annual Toy Drive last week and delivered the toys received to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital on Friday.
  • Women's Golf Finishes Fall Season with Sixth-Place Effort at Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team posted a 36-over-par 324 on the final day of the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Georgia, Tuesday, giving them a 70-over 646 for the 36-hole tournament, good enough for sixth place. Southeastern (Florida) and Thomas (Georgia) fired rounds of 314 and 319, respectively, to move past the Stormy Petrels into the top five, but Oglethorpe maintained their advantage over SAA rival Birmingham-Southern for sixth. The Petrels finished 37 strokes back of champion SCAD.
  • Women's Golf Comes in 14th at Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team concluded their stay at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational Tuesday, finishing 14th with an overall score of 132-over-par 996 and coming in 69 strokes back of champion Wittenberg. The Stormy Petrels posted a 42-over-par 330 on Tuesday at the Baytowne Golf Club at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida.

    The Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be presenting a variety of activities surrounding Family Weekend here on campus. The events will culminate with a fundraiser at the SAA soccer doubleheader against Sewanee Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the Oglethorpe Track and Field.
  • Women's Golf Takes Ninth at Montgomery Country Club

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team took ninth place at the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate this weekend in Montgomery, Alabama, posting a 24-over-par 316 on Monday to cut 11 strokes off their Day 1 score and finish at 59-over 643 for the tournament, 40 strokes back of champions Rhodes. The Stormy Petrels finished just a single stroke behind SAA rival Centre, who finished eighth, and within nine of fourth-place Trinity (Texas).
  • Women's Golf Uses School-Record 298 to Finish Fourth at BSC Southern Showdown

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team used a school-record 18-over-par 298 on Monday to knock 20 strokes off their first round score and leapfrog over SAA rival Sewanee for fourth place at the season-opening BSC Southern Shootout in Birmingham, Alabama. The score marked the first sub-300 round in program history and was the low round of the 2-day tournament. Oglethorpe came in 12 strokes behind champion Berry.
  • 2016 Women's Golf Fall Preview

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team will return to the course this weekend as they get their fall season underway at the BSC Southern Showdown in Birmingham, Alabama. They'll return eight golfers from the 2015-16 team that finished fifth in the SAA last season. Those eight returners will look to mesh with four freshman newcomers early on as the squad looks to develop over the course of the season.
  • Petey the Petrel Helps Gwinnett Braves Mascot Chopper Celebrate Birthday at Coolray Field

    Petey the Petrel, the beloved mascot of the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels, made an appearance at Gwinnett County's Coolray Field on Saturday night. Petey and a wide variety of other mascots from the Atlanta area were there to help celebrate Chopper's birthday during that evening's Gwinnett Braves game against the Rochester Red Wings. Chopper is the groundhog mascot of the Gwinnett Braves, the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
