    Saturday served as Graduation Day for Oglethorpe University, with a large number of Oglethorpe student-athletes receiving their diplomas on the school's academic quad on Saturday morning.
  • Angel Sanchez Earns Spot on Women's Golf Coaches All-Region Squad

    The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) named Oglethorpe freshman Angel Sanchez to their All-Great Lakes region team Wednesday night. It marked the first career all-region honor for Sanchez, and the first for the Oglethorpe women's golf program since Elizabeth Kim in 2014.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2017-18 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Sixth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the university's Turner Lynch Campus Center. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2017-18 athletic year as a whole.
  • Women's Golf Places Two on All-SAA First Team

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team saw freshman Angel Sanchez and sophomore Ana Garcia earn spots on the All-SAA First Team after this weekend's play at the SAA Golf Championships in Dickson, Tennessee, where the Stormy Petrels finished second. It served as the first career All-SAA accolade for both golfers, who each finished tied for fifth at the SAA Championships.
  • Women's Golf Earns Highest-Ever Finish SAA Finish, Takes Second at SAA Championships

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team finished second at the SAA Golf Championships this weekend in Dickson, Tennessee, earning their highest SAA finish and tying with the 2006 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference squad for the Stormy Petrels' highest-ever finish at a conference tournament. The Petrels shot 31-over-par 323 on Sunday at a rain-soaked Greystone Golf Club, allowing them to finish at 88-over 964 for the tournament and come in 22 strokes back of champion Berry.
  • Women's Golf Ends Regular Season with Second Place Finish at Sewanee Spring Invitational

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team closed out their regular season in outstanding fashion Monday in Dickson, Tennessee, as they fired a 23-over-par 315 to finish second at the Sewanee Spring Invitational. The Stormy Petrels completed 36 holes in 52-over-par 636, placing them just a single stroke back of tournament winner Berry. The Petrels finished ahead of five teams ranked above them on the Golfstat Relative Rankings, two of them SAA schools (Sewanee and Birmingham-Southern), en route to the second place finish.
  • Women's Golf Finishes 18th at Jekyll Island Collegiate amid Stacked Field

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team finished 18th this weekend amidst a stacked field at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational at Jekyll Island Golf Club, posting a 138-over-par 1002 over 54 holes on the Indian Mound course. They posted their best round of the tournament on Sunday, putting up a 33-over 321, and finished 111 strokes back of champions Claremont-M-S for the tournament title.
  • Women's Golf Gets Set to Host Annual Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

    “It is hard to fathom it was 16 springs ago that we decided to start the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate,” notes Jim Owen, tournament founder and Oglethorpe director of golf. “The men’s invitational was going strong in its fourth year with 18 teams on the old Oleander course, and several of us came up with the idea to get the women’s event going across the street. It has created a tremendous men's and women’s dual event, maybe one of the best."
  • Women's Golf Finishes Tied for Ninth at Callaway Gardens Collegiate

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team started their spring season with a 35-over-par 327 Monday at the Callaway Gardens Lake View course. That put them in a tie for ninth place after Day 1 of the Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational, 29 strokes back of leaders Methodist. As it turned out, that as where they would stay, as rain canceled the second and final round on Tuesday, making the event an 18-hole tournament that entirely rested on Monday's round.
  • 2018 Women's Golf Spring Preview

    For the eighth time in the last 13 years, the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship will be hosted by the trio of Oglethorpe University, the Central Florida Sports Commission and Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Oglethorpe women’s golf team will look to make a run through their spring slate and earn a spot there in May.
  • National Girls and Women in Sports Day to Be Held Feb. 4 in Dorough Field House/Schmidt Center

    The Oglethorpe athletic department and the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday, Feb. 4. The event will take place in the Traditions lobby of Dorough Field House and in the Schmidt Recreation Center. 
  • Women's Golf Ends Fall Season with Third-Place Finish at Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team enjoyed the best tournament of its fall season in its final event before heading into the winter break, posting a 51-over-par 627 for the week to finish in third place at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational in Rome, just 18 strokes back of champions Berry. The Stormy Petrels fired a 22-over 310 on Tuesday, slicing seven strokes off their first round score, to move up a spot and claim a top three finish.
  • Women's Golf Finishes Golfweek Invitational in 13th Place after Tough Final Two Rounds

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team shot a 59-over-par 347 Tuesday at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort's Baytowne Golf Club, putting themselves in 13th place to finish the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational in Miramar Beach, Florida. The Stormy Petrels ended the three-day tournament with a total of 136-over 1000, coming in 88 strokes back of champion Washington (Missouri). 
  • Women's Golf Finishes Seventh at MCC Intercollegiate

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team fired a 42-over-par 334 Monday at the Montgomery Country Club Women's Intercollegiate in Montgomery, Alabama, slicing six strokes off their first round score. That mark was good enough for seventh place in the tournament at 90-over 674, putting them 57 strokes back of champions Sewanee. The Stormy Petrels finished 16 strokes behind sixth-place Transylvania and 13 ahead of eighth-place Piedmont. 
  • Women's Golf Finishes Ninth at NCAA Division III Fall Preview

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team completed their week at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Fall Preview with a 36-over-par 328 on Monday, slicing four strokes off their first round and finishing in ninth place at the two-day event, which took place at the Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Stormy Petrels finished 54 strokes behind a New York University team that ran away with the 36-hole competition, but came in 21 strokes behind second-place Carnegie Mellon and within 17 strokes of fifth-place Huntingdon on the course that will host the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship in May.
  • Women's Golf Set to Host NCAA Division III Fall Preview

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team is getting set to host the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Fall Preview Sunday and Monday at the Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The event serves as a precursor to the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship, which will be held at the same venue in May and also be hosted by Oglethorpe and the Central Florida Sports Commission.
  • Women's Golf Opens Fall Season with 3-2 Loss to Berry in Match Play Event

    The Oglethorpe women's golf team got their season off to an exciting start Sunday afternoon, as they went up against SAA power Berry in a match play event at Chateau Elan in Braselton. The event featured five different matchups, requiring a team to pick up a win in three of them to secure the victory in the dual match. The Vikings won a close 3-2 match on the afternoon, but the Petrels got several good performances.
