Women's Lacrosse Suffers Defeat in First-Ever SAA Contest

The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell to Centre in its first-ever SAA contest Sunday afternoon, losing 25-1 on the Oglethorpe Track and Field.

It was a difficult day for the Lady Petrels, as they couldn't get anything going against the visiting Colonels. They fell behind 4-0 in the early going, but did get a goal back at the 21:09 mark of the first half. Senior Katie Weeks tallied her second goal of the season as she ran down the center and buried a shot into the upper-left corner of the net. That made the score 4-1, but it was the last goal the Lady Petrels would score.

Centre outscored Oglethorpe 17-1 in the first half, and 8-0 in the second. Centre outshot the Lady Petrels 41-3 over the course of the contest, including 37-2 on goal. Centre controlled 27 draws to Oglethorpe's one, and snatched 17 ground balls to Oglethorpe's 6.

Goalie Hayley Flanagan spent most of the contest under siege in goal, but she did manage 13 saves on the afternoon.

The Lady Petrels are now 0-3, 0-1 in SAA play. They will next take the field Wednesday afternoon, when they take on Aurora at 5:30 p.m. on the the new Oglethorpe Track and Field.
