Women's Lacrosse Falls to Pomona-Pitzer at Neutral Site, 20-2

The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team lost to Pomona-Pitzer this afternoon, 20-2, in a game played in Sewanee, Tenn.

The Lady Petrels fell behind 2-0 early, but got a goal back with 25:31 to play in the half. Freshman Sydney Sparks scored an unassisted goal to draw Oglethorpe back to within 2-1.

However, the Sagehens scored four straight goals to take a 6-1 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the half. The Lady Petrels scored again though, cutting the five-goal lead down to four. Freshman Michelle Vasques provided the tally with 14:55 left in the half.

Unfortunately, that was the last goal the Lady Petrels scored. Pomona-Pitzer scored four more to lead 10-2 at the half, then outscored Oglethorpe 10-0 in the second half, leading to the 20-2 defeat.

Oglethorpe was outshot 48-13, including 33-8 on goal. They committed 31 turnovers to the Sagehens' 20, and were only successful on 5-of-31 clear attempts to their opponent's 10-of-13. Pomona-Pitzer won 17 draw controls to Oglethorpe's seven.

Vasques scored her goal on two shots, while Sparks scored hers on five, four of which were on target. Goalie Hayley Flanagan saved 13 shots on the afternoon.

The loss drops the Lady Petrels to 1-6 on the season. They take the field again in Sewanee, Tenn., tomorrow, when they take on Sewanee at 1 p.m. Eastern in an SAA contest.
