Despite a hat trick from junior midfielder Juliana Altman, the Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell to Centre Saturday evening in Danville, Ky., 22-5, marking the end of the SAA regular season.
Altman tallied a hat trick on five shots, putting four of them on goal. However, only sophomores Sydney Sparks and Michelle Vasques scored goals other than Altman. The Stormy Petrels fell behind 5-0 in the early-going before Vasques opened the scoring for the visitors with 20:23 remaining in the first half. The Petrels would fall behind 10-1 before scoring two of the final three goals in the half, with Sparks and Altman both tallying goals to make it 10-3 in favor of the Colonels with 4:54 remaining in the period.
In the second half, Altman scored twice for the Petrels, but Centre scored 11 more times to pull away for the easy victory.
Goalie Paige Falkowski stopped 15 shots and scooped five ground balls on the evening for the Stormy Petrels. Sparks caused two turnovers, as well.
The Petrels turned the ball over 28 times and were outshot 47-13 on the day. They scooped 18 ground balls, but Centre scooped 34 of their own.
The Petrels fall to 0-14, 0-7 in SAA play. They'll wind up their regular season Sunday at 2 p.m., when they travel to Lexington, Ky., to take on non-conference foe Transylvania.
Oglethorpe holds the No. 8 seed for the SAA playoffs next weekend, and will return to Danville to take on No. 1 seed Centre again next Saturday.
