  • Sixty-Six Stormy Petrels Named to 2016-17 SAA Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll

    The Oglethorpe athletic department saw 66 student-athletes named to the SAA Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll for the 2016-17 winter and spring seasons Friday. The 66 Oglethorpe student-athletes joined a total of 1,033 from around the SAA to earn a spot on the Academic Honor Roll.
  • Women's Lacrosse Coach Shawna Block to Embark on Summer Recruiting Tour

    Oglethorpe head women's lacrosse coach Shawna Block will soon hit the recruiting trail in an effort to bring in an excellent recruiting class for the 2018 season. Block will head to a large number of recruiting camps around the Atlanta area, and will also head to New Jersey, Illinois and Virginia.

  • Nine Stormy Petrels Named to SAA Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams

    The SAA released their Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams Tuesday, recognizing student-athletes who displayed outstanding sportsmanship over the course of their seasons. The nine Stormy Petrels join a total of 79 student-athletes among the conference's eight full-time members across its 10 sponsored spring sports.
  • Women's Lacrosse Puts Five on All-SAA Teams; Block Named SAA Coach of the Year

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team saw a program-record five players make All-SAA squads on Tuesday, as voted by the league's coaches, as seniors Juliana Altman and Michelle Shramek earned All-SAA Second Team accolades while freshmen Jilian Czaplinski, Danielle Fuller and Dreshona Mapps-Whitmore garnered All-SAA Honorable Mention. The Stormy Petrels garnered their first postseason award in program history, also, as head coach Shawna Block earned SAA Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year honors.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2016-17 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Fifth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the Turner Lynch Campus Center on Oglethorpe's campus. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2016-17 athletic year as a whole.
  • Women's Lacrosse Falls 20-11 in SAA Quarterfinals after Hard-Fought Battle with Sewanee

    The sixth-seeded Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell to No. 3 seed Sewanee 20-11 at Puett Field in Sewanee, Tennessee, Friday night, bringing the Stormy Petrels' season to a close with a 6-12 overall record. In a rematch of a game that Sewanee won 16-3 in the regular season, though, the Petrels proved game opponents for the homestanding Tigers, finiding themselves within three goals and halftime and pulling to within a single tally, 10-9, with 25:16 remaining in the contest. Sewanee pulled away from there, though, extending their lead out to the final 9-goal tally.
  • Spring Teams Compete for SAA Championships This Weekend

    This weekend marks the first of three that will feature SAA championship competition, and a number of Stormy Petrel teams will be competing Friday through Sunday for conference bragging rights, including golf, women's lacrosse, tennis, and track and field.
  • Women's Lacrosse Earns Comeback Victory over LaGrange to Close Out Regular Season

    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team got their sixth win of the season this evening in a well-fought battle against the visiting LaGrange Panthers. The Stormy Petrels came back from an early 6-2 deficit en route to the victory, and finish the regular season at 6-11, marking the best record in program history.
  • Women's Lacrosse Drops Competitive Contest to Berry, 14-10

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team played a competitive game with the visiting Berry Vikings Saturday at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, but Berry pulled out a 14-10 victory in the end, as the Stormy Petrels were unable to come back from a 13-6 deficit midway through the second half. The results dropped the Petrels to 5-11 overall, and meant that Oglethorpe finished the regular season 2-5 in SAA play, putting them in sixth place.
  • Women's Lacrosse Falls to SAA Foe Sewanee in Final Road Game of Regular Season

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team faced a tough matchup Wednesday evening against the homestanding Sewanee Tigers in Sewanee, Tennessee. The Stormy Petrels played Sewanee even over the course of the second half, but the Tigers' 13-0 advantage in the first half propelled them to a 16-3 victory. The loss dropped the Petrels to 5-10 on the season overall and 2-4 in SAA play.
  • Juliana Altman Earns Second Career SAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week Award

    Senior midfielder Juliana Altman took her first SAA Offensive Player of the Week award of the season, and the second of her career, Monday from the league office. She earned the honor through her performance in the team's 14-13 victory over Hendrix in Conway, Arkansas, on Saturday, a win that clinched a spot in the SAA playoffs for the Stormy Petrels.
  • Women's Lacrosse Clinches Spot in SAA Tournament with 14-13 Road Win over Hendrix

    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team picked up their second conference win Saturday in Conway, Arkansas, defeating the Hendrix Warriors 14-13 in a well-fought battle. The result allowed the Stormy Petrels to clinch a spot in the SAA playoffs for the first time since the tournament went to six teams in 2015. The score remained close until the clock hit zero, but the Petrels pulled it out, improving to 5-9 for the season and 2-3 in SAA play.

  • Women's Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Contest to Emmanuel

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team fell behind the homestanding Emmanuel Lions 13-3 in the first half Tuesday evening in Franklin Springs and, though they played Emmanuel even in the second half, they were unable to work their way all the way back into the game in a 16-6 loss. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 4-9 on the season overall.
  • Women's Lacrosse Falls to Division II Montevallo in Non-Conference Contest, 17-11

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team hung with the Division II Montevallo Falcons Saturday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, but the visitors proved too much in the end, and edged the Stormy Petrels 17-11. The loss dropped the Petrels to 4-8 on the season.
  • Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest to Columbia, 19-14

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team went out-of-state Wednesday for a non-conference road game, travelling to South Carolina to take on the homestanding Columbia Koalas. The Stormy Petrels fought valiantly, but fell 19-14 in the end. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 4-7 on the season.
  • Women's Lacrosse Blanked by Undefeated Rhodes in SAA Clash
    March 25, 2017
    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team went scoreless in today’s contest against the undefeated Rhodes Lynx, losing 26-0. The Lynx were just too much for the undermanned Stormy Petrels, who at times had to play with nine players due to injuries, from the start. The Petrels are now 4-6 for the season and 1-3 in conference play.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics to Celebrate Start of Division III Week with Cookout on Sunday, April 2

    The Oglethorpe athletic department will celebrate the start of NCAA Division III Week on Sunday, April 2, with a cookout that will be ongoing during the baseball game against Centre and the men's lacrosse game against Hendrix that afternoon. The cookout will take place from noon to 3 p.m., and will be held at Petey's Party Pavilion, the landing overlooking right field at Anderson Field.
  • Women's Lacrosse Suffers Home Conference Defeat to Birmingham-Southern

    The Oglethorpe women lacrosse team fell to the visiting Birmingham-Southern Panthers Saturday, dropping the contest 19-3. This result brought the Stormy Petrels to 4-5 for the season and 1-2 in conference play. The Petrels fell behind to the visitors early and just weren't able to recover.
  • Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Contest to Framingham State, 15-7

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team saw their 3-game winning streak come to an end Sunday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, as they fell to the visiting Framingham State Rams 15-7 on a cold, damp afternoon in Atlanta. The Stormy Petrels got off to a slow start, as the Rams went on a 7-0 run early in the first half, and they never recovered. The defeat dropped the team back to .500 on the season, at 4-4.
  • Women's Lacrosse Blows Out Millsaps 21-8 for First-Ever SAA Win
    March 08, 2017
    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team made history with their first-ever SAA win on Wednesday. The Stormy Petrels dominated the game against the homestanding Millsaps Majors, winning 21-8. Not only did it serve as Oglethorpe's first-ever SAA women's lacrosse win, it also went as their fourth victory of the season, making them the winningest team in the program's history. The Stormy Petrels are now on a 3-game win streak (another program first) and hold a 4-3 overall record with a 1-1 conference mark.
  • Women's Lacrosse Earns Second Consecutive Victory with 11-10 Triumph over Ferrum

    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team picked up their second consecutive win Saturday at the Oglethorpe Track and Field against the Ferrum Panthers. The Petrels pulled out an 11-10 victory in a well-fought battle against the visitors, giving them their first loss of the season. The game went back and forth until the clock hit zero, giving the victory to the Stormy Petrels, who are now an even 3-3 on the season.
  • Women's Lacrosse Jumps Out to Big First Half Lead, Hangs on for 14-11 Road Victory over Huntingdon

    The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first half Monday evening in Montgomery, Alabama, en route to a 14-11 road victory over the homestanding Huntingdon Hawks. Huntingdon made a late run, outscoring the Stormy Petrels 7-3 in the second half, but Oglethorpe held the Hawks scoreless for the final 10 minutes of the contest to secure the victory, improving to 2-3 on the young season.
  • Women's Lacrosse Falls on Road to Tough Methodist Team
    February 25, 2017
    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team had a tough game Saturday at Monarch Stadium in Fayetteville, North Carolina, against Methodist. The Monarchs went on a 17-0 run before the Stormy Petrels could get on the board and rode that advantage to a 21-1 victory.
  • Women's Lacrosse Falls to Centre in SAA Opener
    February 18, 2017
    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team opened its SAA season Saturday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field against Centre. However, they were not able to come away with a victory. Centre scored 6 consecutive goals within the first 15 minutes of the game and finished with a 17-5 victory over the Stormy Petrels. Oglethorpe now stands at 1-2 for the season overall and 0-1 in SAA play.
  • Oglethorpe Celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day

    The Oglethorpe athletic department and the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday at the Schmidt Recreation Center on Oglethorpe's campus. Inclement weather moved the event inside from its originally scheduled location at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, but it didn't dampen the mood of any of the participants.

    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team had a tough evening Tuesday at the Walker Athletic Complex in Demorest, having a scoreless first half en route to falling to the Lions 14-4. This brought the Stormy Petrels to 1-1 on the season.
  • Dreshona Mapps-Whitmore Garners SAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week Honors

    Freshman defender Dreshona Mapps-Whitmore of the Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team earned SAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday from the league office for her efforts in her first career collegiate game, a 22-3 victory over Truett McConnell on Saturday at the Oglethorpe Track and Field.

    The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team picked up their first victory of the year in their season opener Saturday on the Oglethorpe Track and Field, blowing out the visiting Truett-McConnell Bears 22-3. With the victory, the Stormy Petrels start the season 1-0.
